Noel Edmonds is refusing to pay his television licence fee in protest at
'threatening' BBC adverts promising to catch evaders. The former Noel's House Party presenter, who was the BBC's main Saturday night host for a decade, said he was prepared to face prosecution for his stand against the Corporation's advertising campaigns. Edmonds accused the BBC of wanting to 'badger, hector and threaten people' over the £139.50 charge in its commercials and poster adverts, which warn viewers it is 'impossible to hide'. http://tinyurl.com/54rrke which links to: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...C-adverts.html -- Dave Farrance |

Did Ester Rantzen ever investigate a single case of an OAP being by these "officers" bullied by these people? I rather doubt if Mr Edmond objects to the licence fee per se (!), just the Gestapo tactics used by TVL. When pressed, TVL will concede that a licence is not necessary for every household, and ownership of a set does not imply that it's user is receiving licensable broadcasts, then goes on to tell you to expect a visit from an "officer" to "confirm the situation". Police state or what? Good luck Noel. -- Graham. %Profound_observation% |

Well done Edmonds, too much Stalinist threatening propaganda on TV, It's now being used as a substitute for proper law enforcement. What's the latest Public misinformation film about? Threatening employers that if they employ unregistered migrant workers the law and Gov will take some sort of unspecified penalty against them! We don't have law and order anymore, that costs money. Instead we have the cheaper alternative of paying ludicrous amounts of tax payers money to commercial agencies to televise threats. Steve Terry |

Good luck Noel. -- Graham. %Profound_observation%- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - It is just me, or do people that complain about the licence fee (a perfectly justifiable, hypothecated tax on those that choose to use a service, and which fairly taxes the majority of the situations, leaving a very small minority over-charged to the tune of nearly £12 per month) sound like those who complain about speed cameras. You need a licence. You've needed a TV licence since 1968. Any OAP without a licence has no excuse of not being aware they needed one. Since 2001 if real sob story OAPs (my parents are both over 65 and certainly don't consider themselves OAPs) are over 75 they get one free (chalk one up for New Labour). If you really truly don't use TV receiving equipment to receive broadcast TV then you don't pay (but have to argue for it - otherwise all those job seeker allowance "scroungers" (not my words, or yours, but an opinion many hold) would try it on and swamp the system with bogus claims to escape the tax). Its incredibly cheap for the quality of ad free TV that we have in this country. I'm happy and proud to pay it. I think its one of the best value things that I buy each year. (And as for speed cameras, you get caught if you pass one whilst breaking the law. Sounds fair to me) But I appreciate I'm in the minority, and please accept my apologies if I've offended anyone with my rant. These are my opinions and I don't begrudge anyone else their right to hold theirs. Its just that mine are right ;-) Matt |

I wouldn't value the BBC at 12 pence per month let alone £12 per month. The BBC is not an organisation I want to receive, fund, watch, or deal with, thank you. |

You need a licence. You've needed a TV licence since 1968. That's when the colour licence came in. The TV licence started in 1946. The last time someone tried to run a campaign to persuade people not to renew their licences, he was charged with conspiracy to commit an offence.
