Default PVR over the air software updates

Is there a way of finding out when software updates for specific boxes
will be broadcast? In my case its for a Humax 9200T. I don't use the
PVR much so most of the time its switched off (which also saves
electricity) which is why I'm asking.

Keep an eye on the download schedule, or the manufacturer's own web page

Or, if you have a 9-pin null modem cable you can do the upgrade via your PC.

In which case then you'll have to rely on an OTA download instead.

Or borrow a Windows laptop whose owner doesn't mind you installing the
software and take it to your Humax.

I don't think many laptops come with RS232 connectors these days!

So borrow on an older one, or use a USB-RS232 dongle.

Is it not possible to do it using Wine?

Or via VMWare or QEMU?

Maybe, though i've never had much luck with Wine. it only seems to be
reliable running Notepad and thats about it. As for VMware , I haven't
got the time to set up a VM. Besides , dont' you have to pay for it
now if you want anything other than just Player?
