Can anyone advise if something similar to the Sky link function is
avalable for the Virgin CATV service?

Is Sky Link the press-one-button-to-record-the-entire-series feature?
(I have no idea about these technical terms ;-)) If so, then yes it is
available with the V+ box.

It's the thing that enables you to watch Sky in another room from only
one Sky box and also change channels etc

Yes but it's not got the capability "built in" like the Sky boxes.

There are lots of aftermarket products which will do this for you. Just need
to watch out if the cable box remote commands are IRDA.
