Cheers
Steve

only the humax one - it has the option to switch between freesat and the
ability to tune into any free channels.
normally a freesat box will only let you view the channels that have paid to
be on their guide - not the other free ones.
and of course no freesat box at all can let you watch the pay channels (
just in case that was what you were hoping).

No, the Alba/Grundig/Bush/Goodmans models now have that facility too.

Yes you can get all the FTA channels with manual tune.

TMK freesat and sky use the same bunch of satellites .

But its a silly situation as sky freesat gives you loads of channels now
while normal freesat is slowly adding them a couple at a time .

Mud is being thrown at sky for slowing things down - but skys argument
is that it needs to be done this way so theres no technical glitches
that could cause disruption .

Default Freesat query!

So, in effect in the end, both Sky Freesat and Freesat will probably have
the same channels, but the people who went with the sky package will have a
box which they can use for subscription and the rest wont. So what is the
position on high def boxes. Not having any Sky folk around, will the
situation be much the same as far as free to air is concerned.

Just wondering, if all this actually works, why the heck are we wasting our
time with terrestrial transmitters?

Also how does one put on the audio description on the freesat no slot type
boxes? Not seen that discussed, only that its possible.

Are they standard or is it a software dependent system. Also, is the channel
seperatable via headphone output, something that Panasonic have been doing
on their TVs which has gone down well with families with only one blind
person in it!

On the Bush HD Freesat box, it's a single dedicated button on the remote
control. I suspect the Bush (and clones) SD box is the same ?

No.

On the Humax Foxsat a button on the remote brings up the option for
Audio description.

i thought it was the fact that freesat wants the channels to pay rather than
anything to do with sky?

That's part of it!!!

HOWEVER some Freesat EPG data streams need to get added to each transponder
through data adapter hubs that Sky run. Sky have a limit on new services
they will add each month (even for themselves!) to ensure stability - so
Freesat has a limit to the rate that they can launch channels which are
prepared to pay!
