I am trying to set up the following: HD TV, HD Set-top tuner box/
receiver, and an upconverting DVD player. I am a few inputs and outputs short to use component video cables tho, so i am wondering if i could come out of my HD receiver with a coaxial cable and go into my HD with that. would it still be high definition on my TV? If so how much of a difference will it be between the quality i had when i used the component video cables to come from my tuner to my TV. thanks a bunch to anyone that helps out :-) guitardude |

Proper cable is paramount. G² |

If your TV doesn't have enough component inputs, get a component video switch box. The manual ones aren't expensive. I have one and it works fine. For example: http://www.plasma.com/selectors/ph61148.htm http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/PH61150 If you want to spend a bit more, there are switches that come with remotes. Or, you can really go all out and get an A/V receiver with component switching. whosbest54 Unless you are REALLY short of money, get the switch with an IR remote control. |

You might pull enough of an OTA signal through that RF cable to get
HD. Shoot, if I'm desperate for component, there's a $50 component switcher, or you could just get a couple of Y-splitters for each signal. Just make sure one device is turned on at a time. |

, says... You might pull enough of an OTA signal through that RF cable to get HD. No, he wants the cable stations from the box, not OTA. Probably won't work for OTA without an antenna. Clear QAM is another story if he hooks up the cable before the box and the cable service offers it. Shoot, if I'm desperate for component, there's a $50 component switcher, or you could just get a couple of Y-splitters for each signal. Just make sure one device is turned on at a time. Y-splitters will work for one output going to more than one input. That isn't what he has here; he wants to hook up more than one source going to one input; even if only one device is on at a time it may have interference issues. A switch box is recommended as opposed to Y-cables. whosbest54 -- The flamewars are over...if you want it. If you have a HDTV, why do you have a HD Set-top tuner box? Is it
a HDTV which means it includes a HD tuner, or is it a HD Monitor that requires an external HD source? Exactly what do you mean by HD Set-top tuner box? Do you mean a cable box or satellite receiver? I use the HDMI from my satellite receiver and component from my dvd/vcr. |
