I'm going to get it when Five and more radio stations join!

Why wait when if you can get five etc if you get sky freesat fitted ? .

TMK freesat have said that fiveus/fiver wont be appearing on freesat .

Does anybody know when Five are joining Freesat?

Possibly next year. The 5 family are tied to Sky until March 09.

All endless repeats, is your memory that bad you don't remember
an episode the first 6 times around?

To an extent, but it's fairly well established that the terrestrials
maintain their share better when there's less competition for them, so
they get a bigger share on Freeview than on Sky or Cable.

From the point of view of longer term viewing share (assuming there's
someone left at ITV who can think long term, and not just worry about
today's share price), it's preferable for satellite takeup to be
nudged towards Freesat, where there won't be the distractions of the
major pay channels to tempt them into watching something else.

The obviously can't maintain that stance indefinitely, as there are
probably around half a million homes with SkyHD already. But right
now, that's not enough to worry about hugely, especially since the
majority of those homes will have some subscription services anyway,
and so probably wouldn't watch much on ITV HD even if they could get
it.

But my suspicion is that ITV will maintain the Freesat exclusivity
into the new year, and then think about putting it on Sky too. That
way, they can plug shamelessly in the run up to Christmas - "the only
way to get our great films for the holidays in HD" and so on.

As the number of homes with HD receivers rises, they'll find it harder
to stay off the Sky platform, but right now, every little nudge
towards Freesat is good sense for the longer term, and they're not
missing out massively in the short term, either.

I don't watch enough TV to see everything 'first time around'.

Not seeing new/different dishes on houses, what sort of dish fitted,
same make design as Sky?

Can't see HD being attractive to Joe unless BBC1 and ITV1 is in HD.
Might you Joe probably thinks because he got a Plasma/LCD flat screen he
got HD now.

The problem is that these days people think if something is good it will
be taken up very quickly, much due to the 'have now' attitude that has
developed. This is not the case, what usually happens is that we are
told what to like and want by advertising. Most people are followers
and will go with what they think everyone else is going for, usually by
this marketing thing. Freesat has had only BBC 'we don't need to
compete' marketing.

I'm not saying Freesat is great but it is another facility or option
that does not require another subcription (other than the licence fee).
It is mainly intended to cover for those who cannot get terrestrial,
and they have thrown in HD as the timing and BW is appropriate.
Terrestrial will also likely get HD at analogue switch-off, mainly as we
have paid for it and the BBC like it.

Personally having made VHS VCRs for many years I can say the GBP does
not care about picture quality much, but some enthusiasts do. Now cheap
credit has gone and everything is more more expensive (for real reasons
rather than boom/bust economic cycles) we are less likely to see every
person on the dole with spare cash to burn on consumer goods. Having
said that a poor digital signal is much harder to live with than a poor
analogue one, and so this might increase the expectation of better
picture quality.

Freesat will have its place and AFIAK has relatively low running costs
on top of terrestrial, it is here to stay.
