Default Freesat is it selling to Joe Public?

Is Joe Public going for Freesat, does not look to be when in a shop I'm
wondering if it a dead duck.

Not seeing new/different dishes on houses, what sort of dish fitted, same
make design as Sky?

Can't see HD being attractive to Joe unless BBC1 and ITV1 is in HD.
Might you Joe probably thinks because he got a Plasma/LCD flat screen he got
HD now.

Also due to the premptive strike by Sky freesat many people do not know why
there are two and what the differences are anyhow.

More and more people are just cynical these days going for the cheapest
things that can keep the nippers occupied as far as I can tell.

..but those figures only cover the first 3 months of the year, when
Freesat was not available, so presumably the numbers are mostly
'Freesat from Sky' - or does that count as a subscription service,
given the 'free trial' element?

Until freesat add the 'promised' more channels - then its never going to
be a buzz word option for joe punter - more so as the tv guides dont
even list the freesat channel numbers at the moment .

Radio Times did from the start.

Freesat is just a new EPG and a few "red-button" services, so its main
benefit is getting the idea out to the public that there *are* such
things as free satellite channels. It doesn't really matter to the BBC
and ITV if people use Freesat or Freesat-from-Sky or generic free-to-air
sat boxes -- it's still a good result for them.

I did a Freesat installation for an old guy this morning. Probably about 75
he was. He'd bought the box and tried plugging it into his old Astra 19deg
satellite.

I set it up and got it all running, but to be honest I wasn't that impressed
with the channels available or the picture quality. It was the Humax HD box,
connected to a Sony 32" Bravia via HDMI cable. The menus looked fantastic
(quality / resolution) but the channels were pretty poor. BBC HD looked
better but still nowhere as good as a CRT.

It hasn't been promoted much (apart from during Euro 08) and there's very
little HD content, particularly on ITV. The early adopters have got their
boxes, or are waiting for the first Freesat PVR. Joe Public won't get
interested unless it's more widely promoted on TV and in-store.

If you buy a Freesat installation package from Curry, Comet or Argos you'll
probably end up with the basic Sky-type kit, i.e. minidish and single LNB

Friend of mine was just showing off his new Sky HD box. Connected to a Sony
37" via scart. Great HD picture he reckons. Sad really.
