Default MORE FACTS on 8-VSB

I have been accused of not supporting with facts. Untrue. But I will now
offer some facts.

This article written in 2000 about S. America and in particular
Argentina. Argentina like Taiwan and Australia INITIALLY chose 8-VSB and
then reversed its position. Argentina picked 8-VSB in 1998 and changed
its mind in 2000.

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articl...st/ai_64335379

"Internationally, these developments have shattered the commercial
prospects for ATSC/8VSB. Argentina, originally an ATSC adopter, canceled
the decision in April 2000 and now joins the COFDM camp. Brazil, having
thrown out 8VSB, is now choosing between DVB-T and the upstart prototype
ISDB-T system - essentially a Japanese DVB-T copy with some added bells
and whistles. In South America there is a DTV certainty: the future is
COFDM."

You would not know this if you read the PR from the ATSC dated JULY 7th
2004. They still claim Argentina.

http://www.atsc.org/news_information...xico_7-7-4.pdf

"The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the major
elements of the ATSC DTV Standard in December 1996. Since then, the ATSC
DTV Standard has been adopted by the governments of Canada (November
1997), South Korea (November 1997), and Argentina (October 1998)."

Probably just a typo. A recurring one over the last four years.

So much for "just the facts, Ma'am".

Selected it again in 2000 but broadcasters refused to go on the air with
it and had their own test of 8-VSB and COFDM which proved that COFDM was
far superior.

and again in 2004 S. Korea picks 8-VSB after broadcasters REFUSED to go
on the air with it.

The new Zenith 5th gen receiver helped but they also gave broadcasters
DVB-H which at its core is DVB-T COFDM for mobile.

Maybe the third time is a charm.

At least you can celebrate again. Wow they picked 8-VSB again.

The proof will be when the broadcasters go on the air.

The interesting part will be what they do with COFDM using DVB-H or
DMB-T or both for mobile.

BOB will conveniently "forget" to mention anything that isn't helpful to his
arguments. The mark of a true Snake Oil Salesman.

The only fact that matters is 8VSB is here to stay. It doesn't matter
how bad it sucks.
No one gives a rats ass what Japan is doing with their TV...unless you
are implying COFDM has a chance of propagating via sky waves from
there to here, so we can enjoy it's advantages.

No one cares how bad we screwed up, that is the history of America
don't ya know. Everyone in the world does it better than us.
That is why the USA is a third world country struggling to survive.

Have a nice day!
