Hi all,
I recently purchased (about 2 weeks ago) a Toshiba 32" lcd hdtv (model# is: 32AV500U). I'm now experiencing a low hum with a loud popping sound when the volume is on any number except zero. It is intermittent but does happen quite frequently. It generally starts doing this about 20 minutes from powering up. It makes this sound even when there is nothing hooked up to it but the power cord. There is a low humming with a load popping sound. These sounds are at a constant volume (raising or lowering the volume on the set does not change the volume of the popping). The only way to get the popping sounds to go away is by putting the volume on zero. I tried unplugging the set for 15 minutes (also unplugged the cable box as well). I really like the picture on this set and the price was very good. I don't know now whether to swap it for another set or go with a different brand (Sony, Samsung???). One other note: These humming / popping sounds only come through the tv. There is no issue when I use my stereo for sound. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Dave |

Dave It sounds like you may have a grounding issue. Can you test the wall outlets to see if they are properly wired? There is a little tester that looks like a three to two wire adapter. There are three colored lights on it that will tell you if everything is connected correctly. They are available at Home Depot or Lowes for cheap. Good luck! Dave If the (detachable)attached speakers have external wires, look very closely at al connections for a whisker near another lead. That not being the issue. GET A WARRENTY REPLACEMENT *NOW*. Don't allow them to mess with you on an "intermittent" problem. They are a pain to find and most never get enough effort done to really fix. [Plugs in, turns on..."What is this guy complaining about, it works". Un-plugs. "Next unit".] |

Have the item inspected for loose or incorrectly installed power leads to/from the invertors to the backlight assemblies, and/or power supply. You fail to indicate if the symptom is incurred when the audio is muted or not. |

To answer your question Art, no, the popping does not occur when either the mute is on or the volume is set at zero. I also tried switching to another wall socket but still have the same issue. Since I'm within the 30 day money back/exchange period, I'm going to exchange it for either another one or a different brand/model (possibly a Sony KDL-32L4000). Dave |

Dave Make sure the volume on the cable box is turned all the way up, or set to "Fixed Audio Output". Can you bypass the cable box to see what happens? Also, make sure the TV and cable box are plugged into the same AC outlet. Tam |

Back to the store it goes. As Steve wrote in his reply, "GET A WARRANTY REPLACEMENT *NOW*." I couldn't agree more. Dave |
