I have cable HD, but no HDTV set. I'm considering purchase of a 42" LCD.
I would like to stay under $1300. What do you consider to be the best TV in that price in that price limit. |

I love my 42" LG Plasma. It still is priced at many places at $1099.

I would go with the best Sony or Samsung you can find for that price. Try Costco or Sams. Circuit City sometimes has very good prices, but comparison shop on the web. |

Sharp has some very nice products that have comparable features at reasonable prices, also consider if 720p will be sufficient for your personal viewing or if you want to spend the additional for 10801. |

It seems that one can buy an HDTV that makes cable TV HDTV look inadequate.
A nice Blu-Ray player can provide impressive results. Best? Who knows? I like my 47 inch Vizio LCD. It was $999 on the internet. I read reviews by owners on Amazon and elsewhere. Some models had inadequate remote controls requiring slow use of menus to do basic things. Mine has lots of buttons on the remote. I like that. I had been impressed with Vizio in displays against others, but now that I see all the exotic adjustment possibilties, any TV there might have appeared the best if someone fiddled with all the settings on all the HDTVs. |

I just bought a Toshiba. My only concern was to make sure it had full 1020 resolution. Someday cable should be that resolution, and Blu-Ray looks great with it. (That will be my Christmas present). |

Most cable systems with HD already have some 1080, but it's 1080i. Cable could do 1080p but it would take more bandwidth in the 1080p60 variety. 1080p24 would be just right for most films. The only things I think really need any p60 are action sports. I think golf and curling will be fine at p30. Auto racing, football, basketball, hockey, and such, could use p60. But a 1080p60 service is likely to be top premium due to the higher bandwidth needed. -- |WARNING: Due to extreme spam, googlegroups.com is blocked. Actually in a recent Consumer Reports magazine I have, LG and Samsung were
two of the best. All the bars and bar & grills around where I live have the LG brand. Also, I swear by Plasma versus LCD. We bought one of each and both were 780 resolution. The plasma has a much better, clearer picture than the LCD does. I'm not sure if an LCD would be better with 1080 versus 780 resolution. But my opinion is a LG Plasma 780 is adequate and nice. |
