If fussed amplify the pickup signal to line levels at the deck end. It's about the only case where cable can make a difference on domestic stuff - with some pickup cartridges. Due to the relatively high output impedance the capacitance of the cable can alter the frequency response. One of my regrets is that people aren't taught to solder at school. That way they could all buy the plugs and cables runs they want from Maplin/CPC/etc and make up what is required. Slainte, Jim -- Change 'noise' to 'jcgl' if you wish to email me. Well Currys Digital are apparently going to close down 77 high street branches, plus apparently the huge American 'Best Buy' company intends to make its mark on Europe, according to an electrical retailing magazine I subscribe to this could well have a catastrophic effect on many of our existing high street retailers who are already facing an uphill struggle to survive as it is. Why should UK companies who have survived for 20 years, or more, by lying to their customers base survive any longer? How many hundreds of millions of GBP have these companies extracted from a non-technical gullible public for unnecessary extended warranties? -- Alan news2006 {at} amac {dot} f2s {dot} com |

I've always used used "Atlantic" cable. And being barnacle-ized it is
fantastic for all - speaker, digital interconnects, mains, etc. The difference is staggering. Quite hard to obtain though. One cable does all, weighs a ton. -- John the West Ham fan C.E.T. I have never bought any "extras" with electrical or electronic domestic equipment. I reckon most of the bit and pieces are overpriced. Extended warrantees are another overpriced racket. Steve |

Even if there were something in all this, one look at the way the signals
are routed inside the equipment should make most people realise that the daage has already been done in any case. Interestingly, on high current applications like speaker cables with fairly long runs, you can, on some amplifiers, notice differences between cables. However the conditions are hardly the same in tv systems between boxes and the other bits unless your connectors are particularly crappy!
