Just got a 42" LG Plasma. If I use Direct TV broadcast I'm only getting the
option of audio in Mono. If I swich off Direct TV to watch my local channels, I'm getting them in Stereo. Any idea why? I could have sworn my old non HD TV broadcast in Stereo. |

Use the left/right (and video) cables from the satellite receiver and you will hear your channels in stereo. -- Bill R. Remove nospam_ and x in e-mail address to reply by e-mail |

Christie, how is the LG connected to the DirecTV set top box? If you want HD and have a HD STB & the correct dish setup, you should connect the LG TV using component or HDMI (or DVI) cables. If component, you should use the red/white RCA stereo cable to pass the sound to the TV. Or if you have a 5.1 capable sound system, run a digital audio cable from the DirecTV STB to the sound system for 5.1 sound. You should also check the audio output settings of the STB. Alan F |

Who has mono sound these days other the real low end channels or maybe some local broadcast weather sub-channels? Most of the HD channels are also 5.1 sound. Alan F You could very well be right. I have had hd so long I am out of touch! Chip -- -------------------- http://NewsReader.Com/ -------------------- Usenet Newsgroup Service $9.95/Month 30GB |

On my VCR I have an RF output, but it is plugged into (drum roll) Out To TV in the DirecTV box. If I unplug it from the VCR no picture or sound. There is no other coax type plug unoccupied that this "Out to TV" would fit into. The only coax plug on my TV is the cable/antenna plug. Yes I have an extra set us the white/yellow/red audio video plugs. I've tried every sort of combination of this and nothing will get a different audio outcome (to stereo). Between the VCR/DVD, the satellite box and the TV, there are tons of these tri-color plug inputs. I can sit down and document where each plug is going to and from, if someone is willing to help me figure this out. My LG manual is of very little help in setting the TV up and I'm usually pretty good at figuring things out. |

Alan F You are talking such a different language to me. First of all I don't have HD yet. I'm just using the LG TV with basic direcTV hookup right now, I will get HD in the near future. I also do not have another sound system at this time. |

It could be from the TV (tuner), The DVD player, or the Direct TV box. AFAIK the TV Stereo indicator is from the TV Tuner input only. This and OUT TO TV implies that you are tuning CH 3 or 4 to get a program. Right? If Yes, then No Stereo is what you get as you are using the built in modulator (MONO) in the box connected closest to set in the chain. The Red and Whit Audio leads are the only way to get Stereo to the Set and the TV SET indicator probably will not say stereo ((some sets do accept "Digital audio from DVD players/Satellite boxes using a single RCA (black or Orange) or Toslink cable) IF the RF (Antenna "F" connector) is NOT being used on the TV, then the Direct TV box /Audio Out/ menu setting might be wrong. If you DO NOT have a separate A/V receiver: Each and every source should be connected to a separate TV input (RCA or S-video) and the TV (input source) be used to select the source to be viewed. |
