I have Comcast Digital Cable that is hooked up to an old CRT rear-projection
TV through a set top box. It works fine. My other old CRT TV was just hooked directly to the cable-- no box and it was fine too--- until it died last week. I replaced it with a nice 42" Panasonic plasma that I've temporarily just hooked up to the cable. I get all my regular channels-- but also repeats of them at higher channel numbers-- some hyphenated as in 81-201 or 11-1. I assume that these are digital or HD versions as they give a much better picture. So what are these? And I'm assuming I'll need to upgrade to the HD package from Comcast... |

Yes they are digital channels. You may be able to get some of these without a box (below a certain channel number), but to get all of them you will need a box from Comcast. You can also get local stations broadcasting in digital (most of which are HD) using a regular antennae if you live close enough the broadcast tower. |

You are likely seeing the local channels in hd. They are qam channels, as opposed to atsc. Most qam channels are scrambled, but not the locals.
