Dear Friends,

I have set up a petition about the ever rising fuel prices in the UK.
Please add your name(s) and then send the link onto as many people as you
can.

I would question the relevance of this to the group but FWIW I will
not be signing any petition as I think it is necessary to increase
fuel prices to reduce demand, for environmental reasons. It is plain
that oil is a limited resource that must be conserved. People will
just have to get used to that and adapt their lifestyle accordingly.

Yes, I'll be adjusting my lifestyle to allow me to spend more on fuel.

The elephant in the room here is overpopulation.

There are a number of sectors of our society who seem to be on a mission to
outbreed others. And that isn't restricted to third world countries, which
might at least be understandable.

What's the point? The governement can't control world oil prices. Oil will
go up until alternatives become viable and start to compete. Then it will
stabilise.

They can do something about the 50%+ they get of the price at the
pump.

Collect it as Income Tax, VAT, add it to alcohol. What do you suggest?
Then how do you discourage use of motor vehicles for environmental /
emissions targets? Road pricing, even numbered taxnumber plates one
day, odd numbered the next? Would you like the speed limit to be
reduced to 50 mph to save fuel? Or are you saying that climate
change, CO2 targets and so on are all fantasy and the increase in the
oil price has nothing to do with demand?

The government is already raking in more money as they are getting increased
VAT revenues due to the higher prices.

They could afford to give that back as it was presumably not something they
budgeted for,

My daily journey to work adds up over a year to 12,000 miles. Please
suggest how I may do the "green" thing and reduce my CO2 "footprint"?

Except that if the put the tax down the oil countries will just see that as
space that they increase their price into.
