But with new EPG service offered by BBC/ITV and STBs to match

According to http://www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=whatson.Main
there doesn't seem to be any Channel 5 or any Dave.

I can imagine this being a block stopping people migrating from
Analog and from Digital (terrestial / Sky) respectively; never mind
the lack of appropriate regional coverage as Bill says.

Freesat comes from the same sats as Sky - indeed it is the same
signals, but the Freesat box responds to a different EPG.

five/five US/fiver/dave/Film4 are all still broadcast through Sky and
as as such encrypted. They should become FTA later this year or early
next.

Film4 has been FTA for a very long time now, channel 300 on the Freesat EPG.

Yes. PVRs will be available soon as will televisions with integrated
Freesat.

?? Just a thought, Adrian.. )

Do you mean "Freesat", or "Freesat Through Sky", as Sky
presently refer to their FTV line-up?

"Freesat" ( http://freesat.co.uk/ ) has only just started,
being the new, free, FTA BBC/ITV presentation...

From what I've seen, I'm not at all sure that the Freesat
EPG channel numbering is, or is intended to be, identical
to that of the 'Freesat Through Sky" EPG..

?)

Only BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, and C4 share the same EPG numbers, everything else is
different.

Quite, see below.

Indeed it has, but before that, many channels such BBC, ITV etc have
become FTA on Sky's platform in the run-up to the launch of "Freesat"
proper. In the case of Film4, it was re-launched as FTA with a *massive*
publicity campaign in July 2006.

Yes )

Thanks for the helpful updates, (Adrian and Mark as well)!

Although I guess I'm presently getting everything with a
motorised Comag SL65 - obviously I can't get the Freesat
EPG or BBC HD - (now wouldn't that be something)!

Limited experience observing a friend's Fortec Star box as
it's being setup led me to wonder what other changes there
were behind the scenes...

Thanks for the immediacy of the replies.. )
