Default Need a Single Remote Control

After installing my first home theater I now realize I need one remote
to control all of my different devices. The wife says there are too many
remotes laying around. What is a good remote to consolidate all of my
remotes or am I asking too much for one to do all the work? I have
remotes for a Sony LCD rear projection TV, an Onkyo home theater system,
a Panisonic DVD and a remote for my Cable box.

It's hard to beat one of the Philips Prontos or Marantz RC5000s. If you are
fairly computer literate they are not too hard to set up and they are powerful
enough to control all your equipment.

Seconded. They're not for the casual user, but if you want to take the
time to set up a nice program, they make even the most complex system a
breeze to use.

....and I meant to add, there's *great* support at www.remotecentral.com.
Files, forums, graphics, help, tips, FAQs, more.

That's about the best price you're going to find on that remote, *and*
from a reputable vendor. The remote is fantastic... very easy to
program. You can't go wrong... :-)

I'll second that too! It controls my TV, processor, amp, tape deck,
DVD player, CD player, tuner, cable box, VCR and amp. Also supported
at www.remotecentral.com.

Easy to duplicate your existing remotes through learn mode.

Got it based on a recommendation here and have no regrets! Bought it
on the web for $109 plus shipping.

The other remotes suggested are all good. But if you want a low
budget solution, and are reasonably computer literate yourself, then
just get one of the cheaper Jp1 compatable remotes.

http://www.hifi-remote.com/jp1

Some good examples are the radio shack 15-2116 and 15-2117. They're
$29.99 each. The 2117 is an RF version of the 2116. With the jp1
functionality and using the freely available software extenders you
can make this remote nearly as powerful as any $100-$200 remote.

Believe me. These remotes have a lot of potential in them that just
isn't accessable through their normal interface. Out of the box
they're just normal cheap universal remotes. Once extended with Jp1
they'll do everything you could possibly want.

If you're computer literate I just don't think there's any way to beat
the price/performance of a JP1 remote. I've never read anything that
can be done with a $100+ remote that can't be done with a JP1 remote
for under $30. In fact, under $20 gives you one of the current best
JP1 remotes at WalMart, the 8810w.

The ONLY thing I can think of that can't be done with a $20 JP1 remote
that might be possible with the $100+ remotes is timed events. That's
the one thing I wish I had that I don't, but it's not worth hundreds
of dollars to me.

Good Luck!

I'd just add that the Radio Shack 15-2117 is my pick as best remote, at
only $30 it adds RF
