Transfer shows to PC for storage?

I've heard that Western Digital will be introducing a 1TB (or higher)
version of their Expander drive soon, so I don't want to invest in the 500GB
version right now.

In the meantime... since I have lots of storage on my PC's hard drive, is it
possible to transfer shows from my TiVo to my PC for storage... delete them
from the TiVo... and then transfer them back to the TiVo at a later time for
viewing... assuming I have TiVo Desktop Plus?

Yes, and you don't even need TiVo Desktop Plus, plain old TiVo Destkop
will do that. It is just TiVoToGo.

Yes, and you don't even need TiVo Desktop Plus, plain old TiVo Destkop
will do that. It is just TiVoToGo.

Depending on which model tivo you have, and if it's networked, you can
sometimes use a browser to transfer stuff too...

I'm confused. I know I can transfer from the DVR to my PC. But, I thought
that to transfer from PC to DVR, I had to have TiVo Desktop Plus.

You didn't read the whole page at your 2nd link...

Near the top...

Actually... I did read the entire page, but presumed that it was predicated
on having the Plus version, since I followed the steps, and the videos don't
show up on my TiVo DVR. Photos and .mp3 show up just fine... but not videos.

When I go to Now Playing, my PC doesn't show up in any event. When I go to
the Music, Pictures, etc. item, if I have music or pictures in the My TiVo
Recordings folder, my PC then shows up, and the pictures/music, too.

So, I figured that the Plus version must be needed. Either that, or there's
some additional step I need to take... or, the TiVo doesn't like my .mpg
files. I don't know how to tell if they're really mpeg-2, or something else
that uses the same extension.

Any Series2 or higher TiVo on a network - just point a browser at
https://IP-of-TiVo/ Username is 'tivo', password is you MAK.

But that's from the TiVo to the PC, for PC to TiVo you need some kind
of software on the PC - TiVo Desktop, Galleon, etc.

Nope, you only need Plus if you need transcoding - to transfer other
formats to the TiVo, auto-transfers, Web Video, etc.

Are you running TiVo Desktop 2.6.1? You need to be now, order
versions won't transfer video to the TiVo any more.

On second look, 2.6.1 non-Plus doesn't have any functional buttons on
the Video tab of the "Share Music, Photos, & Video" section. There's
only a blurb reading 'To learn more about video transfers, select "Tivo
Desktop Plus Features" from the Help menu.' This includes having no
videos showing from the Tivo Recordings folder.
