I've read the exchange policies for some of the big box stores and
apparently there is a restocking fee. As I read various news groups and forums it seems that folks frequently exchange sets. Are the restocking fees ( a few hundred dollars ) waived? What if a person wanted to exchange a set for the only reason that a larger one would be nice. Comments? |

I have never seen a store that has a restocking fee waive it. This is only one of several reasons to read the purchase agreement before actually purchasing the merchandise in question. And, never make any verbal agreements with the salesman. Get any deals you wrangle on the sales floor in writing, with dates and signatures. I've seen far too many people get royally screwed by sales people in stores like Best Buy and Fry's. Do your homework before going to these stores. You should know more than the sales staff about that new HDTV you are going in to buy. ** Posted from http://www.teranews.com ** |

I think that's the exact reason why a restocking fee exists. -- jer email reply - I am not a 'ten' |

That's good advice for dealing with sales staff of all stripes, be they selling cars, timeshares or vacuum cleaners. If you want to buy an open-box return or close-out lemon for a top-shelf price, walk in and ask them to show you something without having researched the store's inventory or your options. =R= |

Well two years ago I returned a flat panel LCD to Citcuit City without incurring a restock fee. Paris? Lindsey? is that you? :O -- jer email reply - I am not a 'ten' |

That and the "Super Bowl loaner" effect. There are people out there who have no compunction about "buying" something to use for the weekend, then returning it the next week. These are the people who you can thank for big box stores having restocking fees. A big example of this was Y2K. There were a lot of people who bought diesel generators and tried to return them to the store for a refund when civilization did not in fact fall to pieces. Needless to say, many of them found out about restocking fees. |
