IOW's pushing only the button 8 would tune to 8.1, etc. I would hope they would all do that, but I don't know. I don't think any of the boxes actually have an active analog (NTSC) tuner in them. That's why she had problems with entering 4.1, 4.2, because the PSIP never found where DT-4 is supposed to be. So she should check 51.1 to see if that solves the problem with finding 4.1. |

Seeing as how she only gets one channel clear on analog makes it very obvious that she is lacking in the antenna department. Now that may not be here only problem, but it is certainly her majpr problem at this time. With a proper antenna, I'd venture to say that a scan with the converter box will find 20 clear channels at a minimum. 2,3,4,5, or even 6. Anyway, once she locks on, the PSIP should provide the corrections to make this a one time process. But she can't lock on to get psip with a lousy antenna.:-) -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org My Tivo Experience http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/tivo.htm Tivo HD/S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm AMD cpu help http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php |

Diane,
If you don't get this working, drop me an email with your phone number and a time to call, and I'll try and help you. I have free LD anytime. There's just too many variables to write about. -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org My Tivo Experience http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/tivo.htm Tivo HD/S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm AMD cpu help http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php |

Nooooooooo, I said I get 4 or 5 on analog...only 1-2 on digital If you saw my long post, you should be able to get 6 or 7 digital stations, covering all the major networks except for CW. If your antenna only has rabbit ears, those can pick up UHF stations, but not very well. Can you borrow a standard tabletop antenna with VHF rabbit ears and a UHF loop with a co-axial connector cable. Get a 10' or 15' cable and move the antenna towards a window or a spot in the apartment with the least obstructions or walls between the antenna and the northeast direction. Your primary digital stations are (although WQEX-DT 16 is a shopping channel so it may not count). KDKA-DT 2.1 CBS PITTSBURGH, PA 333° 24.1 25 WTAE-DT 4.1 ABC PITTSBURGH, PA 336° 5.5 51 WPXI-DT 11.1 NBC PITTSBURGH, PA 331° 21.9 48 WQED-DT 13.1 PBS PITTSBURGH, PA 334° 19.7 38 (post-trans VHF 13) WQEX-DT 16.1 HSN PITTSBURGH, PA 334° 19.7 26 (post-trans UHF 38) WPMY-DT 22.1 MNT PITTSBURGH, PA 334° 23.7 42 WPGH-DT 53.1 FOX PITTSBURGH, PA 334° 23.7 43 You just need to experiment with antenna placement, just as you would with analog. With digital, you do have to be patient and perform scans. The last number on each line above is the actual broadcast channel #, so if you enter channel 25 for KDKA CBS in your digital only converter box, you should be able to get it to show the signal meter for channel 25, aka KDKA-DT 2. Come to think of it, I don't think you have mentioned the signal meter reading. Look for it on the menu list and see what you get for channels 25, 48, and so on. Good luck, Alan F |

I did reply to your email.
I tried entering all of those channels manually.....I kept getting a "no reception" message. I called the mfr. of the box tonight....he stated that all stations are not broadcasting digitally yet, and that unlike analog which may get a picture in even if it's fuzzy.....a digital station either comes in or it doesn't. Also that it needs a 50% signal strength to be picked up. So, I tried again to enter the stations manually...no luck. Then I tried to auto-scan again. Now there are channels 4, 13, 22 and 53...which never showed up before. (only 4) It is raining tonight...could that make a difference in the signal that the antenna is picking up? Now, I'm afraid to turn the box off for fear I'll lose the stations I got tonight. The plot thickens..... |

I have another antenna here...I tried it before but it didn't seem to
work any better. It says that it has a 12 position VHF/UHF fine tuning knob. Adjustable 34" VHF dipoles for channels 2-19. Multi-position UHF loop for channels 14-69. The 6' coax cable is attached.....I do have some more cable somewhere....would it be ok to buy a connector of some type so that I could move it around more? Or would that weaken the signal? I really thought this would be a lot better than the single one that came on the tv. |
