I just connected a digital converter box to my tv. Before doing this, I
could pull in about 5 stations with just the antenna on the tv. After connecting it, I only get 2. One was the clearest station that I got before, and the other is a new one....weather and traffic affiliate of the first station that I didn't even know existed. When I set the box to autoscan this is all that it picks up. I tried to manually enter the stations too and that didnt work either. It took me 2 days to even get to the setup part...I really have no idea of what I'm doing here. (Obviously) But I was under the impression that I'd at least get the same stations as before and possibly even better reception. Any suggestions? Is it the antenna or is the new box not working correctly? P.S. I also bought a new antenna and tried to use that too...but the reception was even worse. TIA |

Sounds like you got the .2 sub-channel of the 1 station you are getting. This is NOT a new station. The station is sending out 2 sub-channels, a x.1 and x.2, as part of 1 digital channel signal. We need to look the stations up and find what frequency bands - lower VHF 2-6, upper VHF 7-13, or UHF 14-69 - the digital channels are on. Most stations are currently digitally broadcasting on UHF, so you need to work with the UHF part of the the antenna. Alan F |

Thanks for the replies.
My zip code is 15089 The model number is: Magnavox TB100MW9 The stations I got before we 2 (lousy) 4 (very clear) 11 (decent) 13(decent) 40 (fair) 53 (fair) I read though a lot of the past posts here and saved a lot of the lnks that were included...I'm still not making a lot of sense from all of this though. |

Alan F Is it not that the 5 stations she got before were straight analog and the converter has no pass through? Possible. But if her stations are full power stations, the odds are that most or all of them will have a full power digital signal. Why we need the zip code for location and/or the call signs of the 5 stations she is getting in analog. If she is in a rural area and dependent on low power analog only stations or translators, then those stations won't have a digital channel until they do a flash cut sometime after 02/17/2009. TIA You might try repositioning the antenna and doing another channel scan to see if it picks up additional channels. This is a UHF antenna, no? -- jer email reply - I am not a 'ten' |

You don't say what type of antenna you are using. If you can use an outside type, I would recommend the Channel Master 4228. It is for UHF stations, which it appears is the only kind near you. With whatever antenna you are using pointed slightly west of due north, try another scan. If you don't get additional channels, move the antenna a little bit one way or the other and try again. With a bit of patience and an outside antenna, you should be able to get the Pittsburgh stations well. There are a couple of them that aren't broadcasting digitally yet. Check this website for more info: www.antennaweb.org. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Thanks Chip. I'm sorry, I thought that I mentioned it was only the
antenna that came on the tv. I tried moving the antenna and it didn't make any difference on the stations that the scan picked up. I live in an apartment building and the landlord doesn't want an antenna on the roof. I had cable for years but didn't watch their stations enough to warrant the cost, so I got rid of it. I have 3 tv's with rabbit ears....I haven't tried the converter box on the other 2 because they're more difficult to access. |

I got some conflicting info about the stations in your area as far as whether they are UHF or VHF. I am talking about the digital ones only. You may have good results with the Silver Sensor antenna. It is designed for UHF only.
