Yes with appropriate preparation and solder although I've never tried it
myself. Google throws up lots of hints and tips, including;

http://www.aws.org/wj/2004/02/046/

I'd try it with some scrap pieces first or seek out a professional
that'll do it for you for the price of a pint or some aerial advice.

Yes, but not with conventional solder. You need Alusol solder and a
suitable soldering iron.

As I understand it it's the flux that needs to be special, not the solder.

Alusol presumably contains core(s) of the required type of flux.

Yes it can, Aluminium solder is available, but you need to etch off the
oxide and keep it off while the soldering goes on, and of course, we all
know that ally would simply go off bang if it were not oxidised on its
surface.

You can buy professional preparations.

Basic technique: -

cover surface with oil

scrape off oxide to bare metal

solder (under oil or specialist flux)

test thoroughly

stress relieve thoroughly (joint will be brittle and weak).

I've not had much success. Argon arc welding is the way. Or if you don't
need an electrical connection, a decent epoxy glue.

Alusol? You can get that from Boots the Chemist, but I don't reckon
you'd want to apply it with a soldering iron, would you???

But note:-

"Aluminium’ Metal Jointing Solder
Ideal for jointing aluminium, tin-plated brass, nickel, copper or
stainless steel.but is not suitable for electrical joints".

-which might be relevant if the requirement is for connecting cables to
aluminium aerials, for example, but presumably not a problem for making
mechanical joints.
