Default ESPN-HD

ESPN-HD has done the impossible. At least they have been saying it was
impossible for months. Their SD material is now shown 4:3 with side bands, a
good picture, and the ticker at the bottom. And suddenly their HD material has
a much better picture.

I'm glad they've finally figured out how to do what CBS-HD has been doing all
along, but ****ed that I paid extra for this channel and it was unwatchable for
all those months.

FYI, Cablevison started offering the channel for free to all digital
subscribers.

It should be offered at no addional charge to those who have an HD set,an HD
converter box AND a cable package that includes the REgular ESPN.

A widescreen edition of a movie presents the film frame as it was seen in
the movie theater. This is the version that best preserves the filmmaker's
original intent.

End of story!

They completed their transition to HD, with their SportsCenter and other
remaining stuff now broadcast in HD like their games.

I like the way that they do the SD background and then insert a HD
inset to show a player's mug shot etc. That makes the HD stands out
so nicely. It is like looking at a sticker on a window pane where the
distance objects are out of focus. In this way, you know they are
doing their best HD given the limited resolution of the source. Kudos
to ESPN.

Comcast in California does not charge extra for ESPN-HD if you
subscribe to a regular cable that has the ESPN-SD and you also pay $5
extra for the HD service.

Since it makes up one-fifth of the $10 HD tier on Direct TV there's been no
way to subscribe to the tier without paying for ESPN-HD.

By not buying the HD tier to begin with. Like I said, nobody forced
you to buy it. You should be ****ed at YOURSELF for buying it if you
didn't want it.

Nope...I was ****ed at ESPN for foisting a farce for so long. I enjoy
Discovery HD, HDNET and HDNM quite a bit and didn't feel it was worth losing
those to send a message to ESPN via Direct TV.
