Default Handheld TV With Digital Tuner?

Hi,

High def format would be hoping for too much but is there a
handheld TV, 2" to 3", that will receive both analog and digital
OTA? Good contrast is essential. It will mostly be used at ball
games for replays and explaining the (mis)calls made by referees.

Thanks,
Gary

Why would you care about analog? Essentially all stations already simulcast
in digital and less than a year analog goes away.

Not all stations-- most stations. Outside of Toronto, there is little
digital in Canada. Gary definitely needs a digital tuner, but analog's
still useful for a year in the U.S. So depending on his needs, Gary
might need both, at least for right now.

When will hand held Battery powered 2-5" Digital TVs come out. Dont care
about the H D. Sure will miss my two miniature battery powered TVs that was
handy during storm power outages to view the weather radar reports.

Best Buy had two Insignia portable 5" and 7" LCD SD TVs with NTSC/ATSC
tuners last year. I recall reading some comments that the ATSC tuner in
them did not perform very well. There may have been quality problems
with TVs (Insignia is Best Buy's in-house rebranded line from different
sources) as Best Buy stopped carrying them.

I gather there is a market gap right now in portable /handheld LCD TVs
with NTSC & ATSC tuners. Don't know why there are more models out there,
except perhaps they have not yet developed reliable enough and cheap
enough ATSC tuner chipsets that also can run off of internal batteries.
A few of the digital converter boxes that are coming out will have 12V
DC power connectors, so someone can use one of those with a battery
operated LCD display. But that would be rather bulky setup with a 12V
batter; not a handheld setup.

May be better to wait a few months for some portable handheld SD TVs
(HD is close to pointless on a 5" screen) to enter the marketplace.
