hd with antenna?

friend of mine lives in nyc in a building with no cable. some gave her a new
13" hdtv. she asked me if it were possible to hook up a antenna to her new
tv so she could watct it.
the tv is: Sharp-Aquos-LC-13B2UB-Flat-Panel

Yes, use your old rabbit ears. HDTV signals are carried on the same
frequencies as regular over the air TV.

It doesn't have a digital tuner. So she'll need an ATSC receiver for HD.
Or a cheap DTV converter box for digital SDTV. You can DL the manual here.

This set doesn't have a ATSC tuner for over the air digital. You can get
analog with it until those stations go away. For digital, you'll need a set
top box tuner - one of the subsidized boxes will work.

Another poster mentioned rabbit ears. Those sorts of antennas are for VHF
only, if they don't have an added loop antenna built in - some do in the base.
You'll need an antenna that pulls in UHF for many digital stations, although it
does depend on your location and I don't know about NYC offhand. You can
probably look it up and find out where the digital stations are on the band in
NYC at antennaweb.org.

Worth a try, but my caution is absolutely valid - plain rabbit ears are
designed for VHF and one shouldn't assume they will automatically work, which
one might based on the original post.

The OP said HD, not I. I only mentioned digital, which will work with one of
the subsidized boxes. If you had looked at the manual, you would note the
set isn't HD - HD isn't mentioned anywhere in the manual. It appears to be a
SD LCD, with a 4x3 display. A HD signal will be displayed in SD, which is
what one of the subsidized boxes will provide.

I probably should have mentioned the set was not HD in my original post.

So they are providing subsidies for boxes that only will work with
some ATSC signals?
I didn't know they even built them.
