Red button has a function? I thought it was just there to annoy
viewers.

All i can say is the software programmers at sky cant be very good at
their job if they cant even provide a simple option to toggle the red
button on or off in the menu system .

There of sorts isn't there? You can set it to go off after 30secs.

is there a "back" key? like if im watchin sky one and was previously
watchin FIVE or somethin, i could press back to go back n forth 'tween the 2

And all rather pointless as most adverts that use it are less than 30
seconds long .

That's the single most requested missing feature for the last nine years:
and no, Sky don't want you to have it.

Why not?

You mean, like they already do on the services menu, on that menu
option which has been there for years now?

I don't know what channels you're watching but I've never seen it do
that.

Because it helps viewers - those left still watching live TV, anyway -
watch fewer adverts during ad breaks.

But that surely won't stop them channel hopping - it never stops *me*!

Complain to them, and to Sky.

What, you mean the option that DOESN'T switch it off?

Well again I don't know what option you're looking at but I find the
"On-screen icon timeout" or whatever it's called works just fine for
me.

What would be the point?

UK Gold probably have no idea how their red button works so won't be
aware that it's behaving in such a braindead way. Odds are that Sky
will be interested that channels they sell are behaving in such a
braindead way also.

They would just say they have research that shows people want them to

If you've set the icon timeout to 'ON' then you've clearly expressed a
wish that you want the icon gone after 30 seconds or less. If UK Gold
keep making it come back on then they must be going to special effort
(or possess special cluelessness) to over-ride YOUR clearly stated
preference, an option which is offered to you by the "Sky Platform"
and which UK Gold clearly CAN respect, and therefore SHOULD respect.

Complaining to UK Gold and Sky gives you a chance to exploit the
tension between the two. UK Gold need Sky to be happy so that Sky keep
paying them for the channel. Sky want their customers to be happy so
that they keep paying their subscriptions. A complaint to Sky lets
them know that one of their suppliers (UK Gold) is directly ****ing
off one or more of their paying customers (you) in a manner which is
clearly technically avoidable and is clearly against Sky's wishes for
the platform (that menu option wouldn't be there otherwise.)
