Hello,
We're moving house next week and in the process of deciding what to do about our Sky+. We're renting and so the landlady isn't happy about having a dish on the house as the previous tenants had Virgin, brrr. We had a nightmare with NTL / Virgin in the past hence the move to Sky and Sky+ and would like to stick with them. I think I know the answer to this but do we absolutely definitley need a dish to get Sky / Sky+? If not then what are the alternatives? I guess it doesn't have to be Sky+ as we're used to the convenience of being able to record things for viewing later and are happy to consider alternative products. TIA |

But if you have a balcony or garden, (or, at a stretch, a decent south-facing window) then you could consider one of the 'concealed' satellite dish replacements, which might be less visually offensive to your landlady. -- |

Well, you could do worse than the BT Vision system. Freeview PVR with dual tuner for 30quid and nothing more to pay. Downside is you need to (obviously) be able to receive freeview, have BT as your ISP and have decent download speed for on demand stuff. Depending on your viewing habits you may find the subscription stuff to you liking, personally I make do with Freeview and the occasional free BBC replay content. Hasn't made me want to get rid of my Sky HD box - yet, as there's certainly some features absent, but certainly worth a look IMO Alan |

TIA What subscription services do you use? If your basically a FTV person than any decent Freeview Twin tuner PVR from the likes of Humax will work off an aerial. Freeview does have problems for a few so you need to check what reception is like. You might even have to pursuade the landlord to upgrade the aerial. If you watch SKY subscription channels then you need to continue with SKY some how. Check if you have a window which faces roughly south. If that is the case you could fit a portable caravan dish rather than a sky fixed dish. Such a dish would stick to the window using suckers. |
