I've tried to transfer files from the PVR to my PC via USB for the first
time today, and a few smallish radio files have transferred okay, but half of all attempts to transfer what are still small files fail, and I was wondering what other people's experience has been of USB transfer with this PVR? I've also tried the alternative Humax USB driver, but that doesn't seem to be much more reliable and it has the added bonus of freezing the PVR if the transfer fails so I have to cycle the power, so I've gone back to Humax's own USB driver. -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info The adoption of DAB was the most incompetent technical decision ever made in the history of UK broadcasting: http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/da...ion_of_dab.htm |

With the standard software and a cheap crap cable it was flaky I've changed the priority of the Media eLinker app to real-time, and the first 700 MB file I tried it downloaded okay, which I thought was promising, but I started downloading another file straight after that and that failed after a few seconds, so it's still flaky. I did buy a cheapo USB cable actually, so if it doesn't get any better I'll buy a better one, thanks for the advice - which USB cable did you get that did the trick and what 3rd party software do you use, BTW? Also, is there any free software for demultiplexing from MPEG TS to PS (.mpg) format? I tried ProjectX earlier but it said "can't find sequence" or something like that. BTW, did the transfer speed increase after you'd changed the cable? -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info The adoption of DAB was the most incompetent technical decision ever made in the history of UK broadcasting: http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/da...ion_of_dab.htm |

With the standard software and a cheap crap cable it was flaky I've been transferring files at weekends for around about seven months now and a problem I originally had was that (usually towards the end of the file transfer) it would on occasions fail and I would have to start all over again.] However since I installed a software upgraded I haven't experienced any more problems, I have also been pleased with the quality of the finished DVD's.. however if I do have one complaint it's the length of time it actually takes transferring files from the Humax to my computer. -- Alex "I laugh in the face of danger , then I hide until it goes away" |

It's okay anyway, because I've just tried PVAstrumento (which is what I've always used to generate PS files but for some reason I didn't think it could demux TS files) and that worked fine on the only TV programme I've managed to transfer so far - but it didn't demultiplex radio programmes. -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info The adoption of DAB was the most incompetent technical decision ever made in the history of UK broadcasting: http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/da...ion_of_dab.htm |

Just tried ProjectX again and clicked Quick Start and it does demux both TV and radio programmes even though it complained that it couldn't find a sequence header or something. -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info The adoption of DAB was the most incompetent technical decision ever made in the history of UK broadcasting: http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/da...ion_of_dab.htm |

There does seem to be a suggestion that Humax USB transfers are very sensitive to the manufacturer of the USB chip in the PC concerned. I can transfer to my Toshiba laptop with no problems, and no false starts, but the Humax wont talk to my desktop at all - which I suspect is part of this effect. If you have an alternative PC to try, then this is worthwhile doing. Humax's seem fussy about USB cables as well, so short good quality cables are advised too - try several if you have them. Charles F Given the comments about how slow the Humax transfer is, I find the apparent unreliability bizarre. And the idea that you can't retransmit just the bit of the file that was corrupted beggars belief. This sort of problem was being solved decades ago with slow and sometimes unreliable modems.
