3 years ago I did my research and purchased a 52 inch jvc LCOS set The
performance has been outstanding since the first day. I was looking around the video stores and notice that this set has become very rare.. What happened. DLP is no comparison. ??? |

I don't know about JVC specifically, but LCoS sets are considered "high
end" and they are usually found in retail distributors or outlets that are selling as such. Most people do not want to spend $7500 on a TV (even though the picture and black levels are superb).Pioneer is another manufacturer/ distributor/seller of such equipment. Usually, those folks that are predisposed to spending at that level go to those specific outlets that sell them and avoid the "Mom and Pop" sellers of more mainstream TV's (like SEARS and Circuit ity and Best Buy).Although prices are dropping in all TV categories, that particular class of TV is considered a premium item and not many people are into that level.Hence, very little stocking of such items in inventory in the conventional retail stores. You can find them,it is just not a usuallly requested technology. |

People prefer the stronger contrasts in LCD and plasma. Further more the back projection usually have more light in the middle of the picture fading towards the edges. Then there is the the issue of wieving angle. But the projectors are still alive. And if You are happy with Your TV, so what?;-) -- Greetings from Jens "Lyrik" Bech. |

Most of the 'Pro' system features are now in the consumer product (120hz, etc.) Panasonic now owns a large chunk of JVC and they may be aiming LCoS for a narrower upscale market. Judging by what I've seen and what's been said in this thread, it looks like they are changing the whole marketing/distribution channel. -- pj |

Sony is getting out of the rear projection business but JVC has a whole new line of HD-ILAs. I've had my 56" for a year now and it's been great. When I was shopping for a replacement for my piece-o-crap Sharp DLP, the JVCs weren't very prominent in the big boxes. I bought mine at a military exchange. My only regret was that I didn't buy the 70"!!! |

My nephew and myself bought 61inch JVC's back in April and they were quit a bit cheaper than the same size DLP,LCD and plasma's and they have been great. Got them at a midsized electronic store specializing in HD tv and surround systems. |

I am waiting for LCD and Plasma to be perfected before I get a flat screen for a different room though, the motion trails on those are something I can never tolerate. My DLA-RS1 has no problems like that, and great black levels for a 103 inch screen. |

I was looking around the video stores and notice that this set has become very rare.. What happened. DLP is no comparison. ??? First, they were a bit expensive, compared to other brands. Second, light bulb, light bulb, light bulb Third, JVC decided to build a super thin LCOS set, that could be hung on the wall. They discontinued the thicker model, like yours. Unfortunately, the thinner set had HORRIBLE geometry defects due to the optics they had to fit into the thinner cabinet. Those defects made online reviewers (C-Net and others) give JVC LCOS sets a horrible review. Some of those optical problems have been corrected (Mitsubishi has the same problems in their 65 & 73" models, but not as severe) but the damage has been done. And with no-bulb LED and laser RPTVs coming out from other manufactures, and Sony dropping their LCOS sets, JVC is prettu much stuck with an inferior product that it cant sell. |
