Default ITV Catchup Options

Unless I am missing something obvious it appears that ITV's catchup
facility only allows streaming and not a file download.

Is there any reason that ITV only offer streaming whereas BBC's beta
version of Iplayer only offered program downloads.

The files do actually go into temporary cache so can be saved for later
viewing if you should want. Not sure why they do not allow a more straight
forward means of direct download. I don't watch much ITV. The couple of ITV
shows I have seen seem to be of much poorer picture quality than BBC or C4
service, probably smaller files, but haven't checked that is the reason

With the BBC options the downloaded programs are of better quality than
the streamed ones.

I don't do too much catchup TV but my PVR decided to reset itself and I
missed an episode of Primeval so had to try the live streaming option.

Had a bad connection one night but adequate on another day.
