I'm reminded of "Ghost Whisperer," when people don't know they're dead
yet. Except this is more humorous.

You're right, Sony is going to waste away a few more $ billion before they
realize that Blu Ray actually lost.

Regardless of whether HD DVD "wins" or "loses", I think Blu Ray is going to
"lose". People aren't going to put up with the cr*p that is Blu Ray, with
all its extra DRM, region coding, incompatibilities, broken features,
playback issues, high prices, and other problems (and without giving any
value-added or convenience other than more audio and video resolution).
Those who speculate that people will largely bypass hi-def disc formats
entirely (DVD = good enough, and by the time it's not, everyone will be
downloading everything) will probably be more correct if Blu Ray "wins" and
HD DVD loses, but less correct if HD DVD "wins" and Blu Ray "loses".

(Or whether it "sells" or doesn't "sell"...Ah, the power of quotation
marks!)

I think Blu Ray is going to "lose".

(So, this's another one of those quote-fingers ambituities, then?)

Unless they've already got a PS3, and went out and got that LCD for the
SuperBowl.

(How many think this starting to sound like Norm MacDonald's SNL bits
during the Bill Clinton/Bob Dole election?:
"Sony responded to Toshiba's charges, saying 'Yeah, you're probably
right, and oh, did we mention, we're gonna win anyway. :-P ")

Default what about authoring software? ( Toshiba's New MarketingCampaign Is "Proving Effective")

I'm worried about (yet) another thing in this format war. I believe
it was in alt.tv.tech.hdtv some weeks ago that someone mentioned all
Blu-Ray authoring software are forcing everything to be converted
(recompressed) to MPEG4 -- while HD-DVD authoring apps can use MPEG2
as-is without such conversion (maybe some re-muxing but otherwise
essentially "lossless"). HD-DVD ought to be able to use MPEG4 as-is
also (depending on the codec used in the source). Can someone shed
more light on this, please? Right now it seems to me that HD-DVD is
more "versatile". I know "data disks" can store anything, but I'm
mainly talking about the authoring apps & standalone players y'know.

Also, I have yet to see support from Apple or Mac third-parties for
HD-DVD -- Roxio Toast has a kext for Blu-Ray support (I do have that
pkg), I just don't know about the other "pro video" apps (costly).

Thanks for letting me chime-in about this.

Yeah, you're right: everybody is going to dump HD-DVD now because some
****ty niche production house went Beta Ray. Come on, Sony fanbois, we know
you can do better than that. Postings like that harm your own credibility...
oh sorry, I forgot, Sony and credibility don't belong in the same phrase! If
there is one thing your beloved Sony excels at, is the PR/marketing
bull****. So yeah, if hype is all that matters to you, run to the nearest
store and buy a ****ty, non-upgradeable, Betaray profile 1.1 player at three
times the current price of a fully functional HD-DVD unit.

I am glad to report that many people are smarter than that, as evidenced by
the fact that I had to visit 4 (four) Futureshop/Best Buy stores here in
Toronto tonight, to find one that still had HD-A3 in stock!

Um...there would be a lot more on the shelves if Futureshop or Best Buy
REPLACED their stock. Which they've already announced they don't plan to.

Bull**** and an outright lie. I asked them about that and they ARE ordering
more.

Where is your source? That's right, you don't have one, 'cause all you Sony
fanbois do, is spread lies, disinformation and paint HD-DVD in black.

BTW, latest NPD report (just came out 2 days ago) shows that the so-called
BR/HDDVD sales figures showing a 93:7 ratio were misconstrued, and skewed
because of the "free Betaray player with HDTV" offers. HDDVD is back to
normal - pretty much what it was before Warner's announcement:
http://tinyurl.com/3bk87q

And with the new HD-DVD pricing, we'll talk in a month from now.

Default Any HDDVD bargains

Where are the $9.99 HD-DVDs? BOGO's etc.

Is there a good place to see bargains as they appear

I need to stock up on bargains as they occur

I will continue to use my XA2 and A35 for a good long time -- until a
decently priced / quality player settles out of the bluray player choices

I'm just not a gamer at this point and have never been able to stretch out
the wallet for a game box like the xbox or ps3
