You just have to accept, for now, that Five and others are not using
series link and so you have to use the other facilities of the Hummy to
record a series.

not to be rude, but am i the only one who finds it really sad when people
refer to their topfield manufactured machine as a toppy, and a humax as a
hummy?
it's almost an attempt to anthropomorphise their machine into being their
special friend.

I just find it an easy shorthand for that particular model. Sorry if it
offends :-)

That has everything to do with broadcasters misusing it and nothing to do
with SL per se. Each variant should be a series of its own. Personal
judgement as to whether that is better or worse than no SL at all ;-).

Paul DS.

But the Freeview Playback Spec would suggest that it *should* link all
variants.

Richard

Can you point me at the Freeview Playback spec please? That would seem to
be rather odd, especially given the Channel, Channel+1 type channels.
Does this mean I should get two copies of everything :-(. ?

Schedule 4 on page 10 in :

or :

http://www.freeview.co.uk/docs/retail_licence.pdf

which appear to be mostly the dame document1

There's probably an element of truth in that statement (more so in the
case of the Humax since it _isn't_ a contraction :-), but I use the name
"Toppy" since it saves a little on the typing and seems to be an
accepted contraction.

Presumably, you are a 'Toppy' owner. :-)

I think Series Link has mixed blessings. Try to record only each
Wednesday BBC2 9pm Torchwood programme, for example. You can't. Thanks
to SL every variant in the week is recorded, included the dumbed down
kiddies version at 7pm!

Richard

My Sony DVD/HDD recorder has series link, but no mention of Freeview
Playback.

Well someone on the Digital Spy forum said, "I love my Hummy more than my
Mummy."

Where did you get this list?

By snooping the EIT.

I'm tinkering with an extension to VDR (the open-source PVR) to support
TV-Anytime aka Freeview Playback.

Deeply sad. If I believed in it myself I'd have to call my Nikon camera, my
Nokia phone and my Wacom graphics tablet "Nikky", "Nokky" and "Wakky",
which is why I don't.

And the Tefal toaster and Hotpoint cooker in my kitchen would probably have
to be called something like "Titty" and "Hotty".

Then there's my computer. It's home-made. Does that make it a "homo"?

I expect the usual suspects to contribute further to this notion...

Rod.

I use Hummy because that seems to be what everyone else calls it and usenet
causes enough confusion as it is. :-)
