Default BBC iPlayer available overseas?

Non-UK residents can't use the download version of the iPlayer, but does
anyone know whether the streaming version of the iPlayer is available to
people outside the UK?

The adoption of DAB was the most incompetent technical
decision ever made in the history of UK broadcasting:

The streamed content is similarly restricted for identical reasons.

IIRC there are several (more than one anyway) that provode a UK identity for
ex-pats etc that wish to use these services.

AIUI they allow a internet connection (VPN I think) to their servers in the
UK which then pass the requests to the BBC etc.

www.tvcatchup.com might be of interest. Don't know personally if it works
outside of the UK, but forum users claim to use it away on business. I'm not
quite sure how they avoid the wrath of the copyright holders, but they do
claim to be legal.

I got info from www.consult-here.com/BBC.html
they describe 3 different ways to overcome the problem. I have tried 2 of
them and they work for me - from Spain and when I was on a recent trip to
the US.

The bbc have made a pigs ear of the new player anyway, as they now find most
blind users cannot use the skip to forward and back buttons and are now
redesigning it to comply. This despite supposedly consulting for this sort
of thing. It seems the developers ignored advice and they are now being
threatened by disability organisations.

Also, I do get so annoyed with bbc pod casts having chunks missing due to
rights or licensing issues. Grr.

For the last World Cup I tried to listen over the internet at work. All was
well up until kick off at which time the sound stopped. Real Player
indicated there was a stream, but it was simply silent. They didn't even
bother with a "sorry, but we can't broadcast this because..." message :-(.
