Default where's the WOW!

I just set up my Panasonic TH-50PX77U and don't see any "wow" when
watching HD. The picture looks beautiful, though. My current HDTV is
a 34" tube that is amazing in HD...maybe the shows last night were not
shot in HD, but upscaled for HD broadcast?

There was a show about the Blue Angels that looked really nice, but
again...no WOW factor.

You don't say what you watched, so it's not possible to make any
meaningful comments. But not everything in HD will give you any kind of
wow. For example, NBC Nightly News is now broadcast in HD, and there's
very definitely no wow there...a large number of their on-scene reports
have colorful blue bars and are not actually HD. Plus, Brian Williams
himself isn't particularly conducive to a wow, either... :-)

But if you're really seeing a true HDTV broadcast, there are some
programs that show it off nicely. Many things on Discovery HD are
beautifully done and wondrous to watch. CSI:Miami has lots of scenes of
Miami's colorful areas that show off the colors in HD. To a slightly
lesser extent, the colors of Vegas lights are displayed in the original
CSI. But not every program that *is* broadcast in HD will truly
showcase what HDTV *can* be.

That's what most people say about HD compared to a nice progressive scan DVD
player in 640P or even Standard defenition.

It's just not a big deal and not worth the money. 99% of consumers just
don't seem to care.

Did you adjust the settings using a calibration disc. Out of the box
most HDTVs arent very impressive.. A few adjustments and event eh
news is stunning.

Beware of the CSI shows as they have 'themes' to the colors. Miami
tends to hyper blue skies with an over yellowish cast. Good looking HD
not in any specific order: NCIS, Bones, House, Men in Trees, Private
Practice, Back to You, Nature (generally outstanding!), Grey's
Anatomy, Women's Murder Club, Leno, ER, Boston Legal, Super Bowl.

Are you comparing a 50-inch plasma HDTV to a 34-inch CRT HDTV? *If so,
you experienced the "wow" factor when you began watching your CRT HDTV.

I'm new to all this so apologies if these are dumb comments.

I went to a store today and they had a full HD lcd playing a blu ray
disc and it was fantanstic, but when they played hd tv broadcast it
was so lame. They were showing Oprah. Maybe it wasn't filmed in HD
but it was very disappointing.

Not true. Hd is really starting to catch on now. What held it back
primarily was the relatively few HD channels until recently.

I don't think that's true.

I've read countless reports of consumers getting home with a new HDTV
set and being underwhelmed, falsely expecting *all* TV to be in HD and
therefore being greatly disappointed. So perhaps this group is the
"99%" you refer to.
