"Julie" wrote in message ... Thanks all for the helpful advice....I think, for me, my easiet option is to go via Sky and then rig up the old box when i get around to it!! Easiest, but not cheapest! If you can get the engineer to officially or unofficially put in the extra cables to support the old box in a new location you would be better off doing so. |

Sky have a fair number of Independent ASA's (Authorised Sky Agents)
around the country. They are independent businesses which are fully registered with Sky to be able to sign customers up to Sky and deal with the initial set up. Some, but not all of these choose to do their own installation of Sky systems for the customers. Some just do the initial sign-ups and then hand on the installation to Sky themselves. Many of the ASA's are independent TV shops etc, and others are Aerial companies. Some are obviously TV shops who do their own aerial and Sky installations. If you approach the right type of Sky ASA, you can talk over the whole installation and ask any questions and arrange for them to do the installation of Sky and integrate it with anything else you have or should want. They will charge the going rate for the job, obviously, but they will usually give the "Sky Special Offers" which are available at the time to make the overall job cheaper. Generally you will get a good job as the dealer will have a reputation to maintain. |

Getting out an engineer to run in the additional cables "at a later date" will still incur another minimum charge of £65, even from an independent. It's far better to get "all" the cabling sorted out on the initial visit to install the SKY+. |

It's far better to get "all" the cabling sorted out on the initial *visit to install the SKY+. I agree that it is best to do the whole thing at once but I still stress that an independent dealer is just that, even if they are an Authorised Sky Agent, and it is not true that there is a minimum charge of £65 from an independent dealer. It is up to the dealer what they charge. In my case the minimum charge is £28 but obviously that will vary considerably and there are those who will charge considerably more. |
