Humbug. I am having trouble sourcing this cable / connector or do I have the wrong idea altogether. I want to connect a typical PC which has a DVI-D digital video output to an HDMI TV/monitor. Of course a PC's DVI-D output will not include the audio channels be it either the PC's two channel analogue audio output or S/PDIF digital audio output. So I think what I would want to use would be some kind of DVI-D + analogue audio to HDMI connector. From my searching and research, I can't yet find someone doing this. What am I missing here! Surely I can't be one of the few people who would want to aggregate DVI-D digital video and a common audio signal to the all new HDMI interface. (Note: one particular display I want to test in this configuration does not appear to support a separate audio input when the HDMI source is selected, thus I want to aggregate the signals before it reaches the display.) Anyone tried home-made HDMI cabling yet just like what one did in the 1980s! Thank you for the advice. |

I'm almost certain such a cable does not exist, I think you'll have to connect the analogue audio seperately. |

Regarding the audio, just use the analogue audio input located next to the TV's VGA connector (normally a stereo jack plug) - most if not all HDTV's will use this input for audio when they are being fed a DVI signal via HDMI input (note you do not need an actual VGA cable). There are other potential problems with using a PC on many HDTVs: Firstly, the PC may not output the display's native LCD panel res of 1366x768. Many PC's will output 1360x768, however, and some LCD HDTVs are smart enough to add three columns of black pixels on each side of the screen when they are used with this mode, which avoids rescaling artefacts on the image. Other LCD HDTVs have very poor support for PCs - the worst examples I've seen added overscan on all modes when a PC was used with the HDMI input, making it unusable, and would only display 1024x768 with black bars either side with the VGA input. |
