Quick question, is the content of an encrypted MPG stream any different
from the content of a clear stream from a technical point of view? I.E. could you use a cheap digital PVR to record an encrypted stream without it complaining and then be able to stream it back via whatever CAM is required to allow access/viewing? I've got a daft idea rolling around in the back of my mind s'all... -- Clint Sharp |

Has anyone tried swapping hard drives from one + box to another? Would be interesting to see where they tap the stream. I may have to find my screwdrivers this weekend. -- Clint Sharp |

Ahh, I agree totally, I'd suspect they are a *lot* smarter than me. But I'm not after tapping a decrypted stream, I'm thinking of replaying an encrypted stream past a CAM with a valid card and not actually for Sky (initially) anyway. I suspect that the tuner in the box will spit out an MPEG stream which I may be able to feed into a 'standard' DTTV I've got some embedded LINUX boxes I can use for this anyway... -- Clint Sharp |

Plain SKY boxes (not Sky+ or SKD HD) have a PCMCIA shaped connector underneath that is concealed by two screws. This connector provides the decrypted MPEG stream. If you order a service manual from PACE this contains a schematic that shows the pinouts of this connector. Another method is to use a Dragon CAM to decrypt the stream. Nick. |
