I tried looking this up online but wasn't left with anything other
than the vague impression that "LCD is far more durable" than plasma. Dont' know if that's still true. Anyway, is plasma so delicate it's hard to ship, and if you bang it somewhat (not outright "drop" but bang somewhat) during installation it might break it? Is LCD really more durable? That might swing it for me. I looked at a Panasonic Plasma 42" but didn't really see it as "better" or clearer or better at showing motion than the LCD right next to it. Maybe they have the settings tuned really well on the sets they want to sell... The Samsung 4061 lookd kind of duller and less crisp than the Sony V3000 and V2500. Maybe it's me. Are any sets (LCD) known for just not being advisable to purchase due to quality? |

That might swing it for me. Plasma screens are thin glass (not like thick crt glass), subject to cracks/breaks, and also add weight to the TV. From what I've read, I'd consider LCD much more durable. LCD's have a dull finish to them which make them look a little duller than plasma. On the other side, they don't have the reflection glare near as bad as plasmas. Take your pick.:-) Are any sets (LCD) known for just not being advisable to purchase due to quality? I certainly don't worry about name brand. Just do some research on any brand you consider. I'm happy with both my Olevia and Envision. My cousin has a Vizio shes happy with. Find a particular model you want and ask if anyone has any comments on that model. Disregard any general comments about buying a name brand without some facts behind why you shouldn't buy the one you want info on. Most sets contain the same basic components, with many being made by the same OEM manufacturer. Selling price is based on cost plus overhead. Want to support the NFL, buy Toshiba or is it Samsung, Mitsubishi or Hatachi for the PGA, don't recall. -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org My Tivo Experience http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/tivo.htm Tivo HD/S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm AMD cpu help http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php |
