Default Digital Projectors

Considering installing a digital projector. Any feedback would be
appreciated in respect of models and screens to be considered, or avoided
and opinions upon suitable brightness rating (e.g. 1600 or 2000+ Lumens).

We have a 42" Sony Bravia LCD TV, so the projector would not be for general
use. It would be used for special features only, such as feature films,
sports events, PC photo displays etc. Ceiling mounted projection with an
electric roll down screen is intended, so that the equipment is not
intrusive when not in use.

Location is a 20' x 20' room, so we are considering a screen size of up to
100" with a brightness rating of 2000 (may be to much?). Most units seem to
have a range of inputs and a built-in Freeview tuner.

Opinions and experiences welcomed.

Regards

Contact these guys?

I was at the What HI-FI Sound and Vision show last month, and their
demonstration of the high end Infocus 1080p projectors was impressive.

Infocus IN82 Full HD Dark Chip 3 - 16:9 - 1080p High Definition DLP
Projector. HDMI 1.3 Inputs

Three grand and upwards though, really for the committed (or those about
to be...)

I used these two sites a lot when making my decision earlier in the year.
http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php
http://www.projectorcentral.com/

I went for a Panasonic PT-AX100. Described as 2000 lumen, 16:9, and does
1280x720 (that's 720p). No freeview tuner.
My room size is 17' x 12', and the screen chosen gives 120" diagonal; a
manual drop down one.

Have a look at this too http://www.thx.com/home/setup/display.html for
positioning.
Definitely draw out your setup and indicate head heights, image height, beam
path, and projector height (taking into account the maximum offset of the
image from projector lens center).
In my situation, a ceiling mount (unless on a long pole) would put the
projector too high. I went for a wall mount in the end.

Of course, we don't know what your budget is, or if you intend getting a
1080p projector.
