Good grief, I would be willing to bet that in a double blind test you could NEVER reliably 'guess' the difference between modest plain old audio cable (for audio) vs RG59 vs RG6. Yeah they're different at 1,000,000,000 Hz 100 feet long but for audio that's nuts. Belden 1505 (broadcast RG59) is better than some of the low end RG6. For HDMI I just received some nice 22 gauge cables from them and they are top notch. Since I needed 25 foot runs I went with the heavier 22 gauge wire (not that that matters anywhere except my psyche). I also got an Svideo cable from them to not have any unused ports on the projector. Heavier cable always has lower loss and while it makes no big difference in audio, it improves the digital video transmission. GG The thing about digital is it's either good enough or it isn't. Once you pass the threshold, there's little to be gained (perhaps a bit of ruggedness) by going farther. -- The e-mail address in our reply-to line is reversed in an attempt to minimize spam. To a degree that is true but since I work in the video business, I can tell you with absolute certainty that 'good enough' ALWAYS comes back to bite your backside. You always do the best you can afford - incentive to shop wisely - and not waste RG6 on subwoofer cables when it would do much more good as antenna cable. GG |

I bought a Samsung HDMI cable at a local audio store for $35; not cheap, but not a Monster price either. Oops that last reply got away from me.... I was looking online atwww.monoprice.com. Pretty wide assortment and the prices seem reasonable. Anyone have any experience with them? Mike I support monoprice.com. I have made multiple orders from them, and received great products every time. Concerning HDMI, I got the cheapest 6' cable they sold, and it was on sale that day (cutting another 40%) and it was noticeably better quality than the stock cable DirectTV installed on a HD box (it was twice as thick, plus ferrites on both ends). I think that cable cost me $3. For the in-wall installations, you spend a little more for the CL-2 rated cable, but most of it is at least 15 feet long. |

Monoprice is the "Newegg" for buying cables online. In other words, Monoprice's retailer rating speaks for itself. (Near perfect.) Don't spend a lot of money on HDMI/DVI cables. Digital is digital. It either works, or it doesn't. My $6 HDMI cables work just fine. I agree, their reputation is good. Another one that is VERY good is www.pchcables.com , great prices and service. My company also has bought cables from them. |
