Will the apocolypse occur?
Will God speak to us over the TV?
Will the east and west coasts disappear under 3 ft. of water?
Will the Patriots win the Superbowl?!?!

Can I expect a better sense of whether it will be HD or Blu-Ray?
Will Sony and Samsung have thin bezel LCD sets ( the reviews of the
first models from Mitsubishi and Toshiba have not been that
favorable).
Will they have the rapid motion blur problem licked for LCD?
Will prices be much lower than today?

Maybe. But sony sucks.

Will Sony and Samsung have thin bezel LCD sets ( the reviews of the
first models from Mitsubishi and Toshiba have not been that
favorable).

sony is a four letter word, the Samsung LED DLP has a bezel thats just a

bit
wider than half an inch, and its available now for under $2000. The
Mitsubishi is an excellent TV, but it does have a color wheel.

Will they have the rapid motion blur problem licked for LCD?

Yes, its called 120 Hz refresh, and its been around for over a year.

Will prices be much lower than today?

No. But cheaper 720p sets will become increasingly hard to find, as
manufacturers close them out in favor of the 1080 sets, which are more
expensive.

All Sony and Samsung panels for LCD's are made at the same factory
which is jointly owned by Sony and Samsung.

Do you have a source for that? Also see below.

Also they don't have the rapid motion blur problem licked, rapid
motion is still the worst on LCD's, particularly when compared with
plasma panels.

The highest tested LCD panel was the new LED model from Samsung, which
managed 800 lines on the motion test with Motion Plus set to "ON" -
the Pioneer plasma hits 900 lines. That Samsung LED is a 60Hz model.
Most of the 120Hz LCD's tested score between 550-650 lines on the
motion resolution test. The Panasonic plasmas all scored 880.

I'd hardly call it fixed, but the new 60Hz LED model from Samsung
bested all the 120Hz models for motion resolution. It still could not
compare with the Panasonic and Pioneer plasmas for motion resolution
and accurate blacks.

Source? I'd like to read the review of the 60 HZ LED from Samsung. Is that
a LED LCD, or the DLP model?

If you are set on LCD...
LCDs will have a major upgrade in the near future.
With individual variable LEDs for backlighting.

Great article in the last Wide Screen Review
and should really help with the black levels
while still having the bright part of the scene still bright.

And processing is making good gains also for the motion blurring
and blocking....

It's the LED LCD model, the new 40" LN-T4081F

You can read the entire review at the following:
http://hdguru.com/hd-guru-exclusive-...cd-102907/201/

Gary Merson, well known for his "Are you getting all the HDTV
resolution" series of tests on over 150 different models over the last
18 months is the brains behind the HD Guru tests. He also tested the
120Hz Sony KDL-46XBR4 and I'll quote directly from the article (which
I think is either in the OCtober or November archives 2007)

"The KDL-46XBR4's maximum 600-line motion resolution performance tied
that of a recently tested Sharp 120Hz LCD panel, making these two the
highest measuring motion resolution LCD panels to date. Yet both fall
short when compared to the best-measured plasma performance (880
lines) or LCOS microdisplay (780 lines)."

The 880 lines was the Panasonic TH-50PZ750U, but he recently tested
the Pioneer KURO PDP-6010FD which came in at 900 lines. You can see
the results of the new Pioneer as well as 60-something other 2007 sets
in the most recent series of tests at http://www.hometheatermag.com/hookmeup/1107hook2/

In the review of the Sony the worst part was when he tested the
"Vivid" mode - which sadly the set comes out of the box in, yet only
an idiot would want to keep it in this mode. For static resolution it
couldn't even resolve 1080 lines, it tested at 880 and 450 for the
motion!! Yikes!

Sorry, I missed that bit. If you read the whole aritcle it's mentioned
in there, but it's pretty common at this point. I believe Sony bought
into the Samsung factory, because Samsung's factory has been making
all the panels that go into the Sony's for sometime now, but recently
it's mentioned that they co-own the factory, so I can only assume Sony
bought into it as it was definitely Samsung's originally.
The technology of course other than the panel is from each
manufacturer individually, it is only the panel itself that is shared.

Good point!

At what time would you expect this to happen?

I would want to buy one of them cheap 720p sets

They are already cheap. Check out Vizio's website, or look at some
Insignia's from Best Buy.
You'll be buying a crappy TV, but at least you'll have the "720p" and
"cheap" stipulations met.

What's the big deal about thin bezel?

I would be able to squeeze a 46" diagonal model into an area a

little
over 42' wide.

Rear screen projectors have no bezel at all but you always trade off
_some_ parameter.

We paid 'too much' as an 'early adopter' but have been enjoying it for
4 years now and I don't regret it at ALL.

Take the plunge and you'll wonder 2 things: why did I wait so long and
why didn't I buy a bigger one.
