As I said in a previous thread, I have an HDTV capable of 1080i with
component video in only. I wish to play 1080i HD content on it I download from the internet in DivX format. I currently own a Pioneer DVD (progressive scan, DV-363) player which does not play DivX. Is it possible to convert DivX movies to DVD format and play them on my Pioneer player and have them display in 1080i or will the files be too large? I read them manual on my DVD Player and it does not state which resolutions it will output via the component video. Should I consider buying a DivX player and just burn the content to DVD's an play them? What should I look for in a new DivX player to make sure I can do this? With/wiothout Up-conversion? I read somewhere that all HDTV's already up convert for you. Is this true? Sorry if I am asking easy questions. I am very new to this. Thanks in advance; Steve |

Not many DVD players will upscale SD content over component. It is no longer allowed by the industry for reasons of Digital Rights Management. If you converted your divx HD files to DVD, they would no longer be HD. DVD-Video is limited to SD content. Not many mainstream players can read divx HD. Here are some search results: http://tinyurl.com/2cwomh You would have to research these further to see which have component and if the component allows HD signals. With/wiothout Up-conversion? I read somewhere that all HDTV's already up convert for you. Is this true? All fixed-pixel displays (which is everything except CRTs) deinterlace (if necessary) and scale (if necessary) any supported input signal to their native resolution. But that doesn't turn an SD source into an HD source. -Bill -- Sattre Press History of Astronomy http://sattre-press.com/ During the 19th Century by Agnes M. Clerke http://sattre-press.com/han.html |

Thanks for the help. I was planning on using a PC but I gues I would need
to buy a VGA to component video convertor. Are there any video cards (AGP) that have a decent component output? Could you suggest one or two? Could you suggest one or two? Thanks; Steve snip How old is your HDTV? Our Samsung is 4 now and has both VGA and DVI inputs, either of which work fine with the PC. Video cards are typically VGA with maybe DVI and/or composite. I've never looked for a component output and while it wouldn't cost much IF it were a mainstream product, since it's a niche product, expect it to cost more than you'd like. This gadget may do the trick for you and wouldn break the bank. http://sewelldirect.com/VGA-to-Compo...-Converter.asp GG |

It still won't play divx HD. -Bill -- Sattre Press Curiosities of the Sky http://sattre-press.com/ by Garrett Serviss http://sattre-press.com/csky.html |
