I've got a similar setup, all Sony except the Pace Skybox. We had to move the tape to the HDD and then burn the DVD. The wife had a steamer-trunk load of Jamie Oliver tapes (she never watches) which we transferred to DVD. Tell you what, I'll bugger off, go upstairs and come back again with the cabling scheme. |

Why would that matter? I know some VHS tapes are protected with macrovision which may give a poor quality copy, but I would assume from his post that he is getting nothing at all... If you are making a point that he is trying to copy commercial recordings, and therefore breaking the law, I shouldn't think anyone is going to make a big fuss about someone making a few copies for his own (or that of his kids) personal use...? -- Regards, Chris. In the States as they are legally allowed to make one back up copy of protected material they can buy kit that is actually termed "Macrovision stripper device", here in UK the copyright laws are stricter, and such devices are termed "stabilizers", they do the same thing just can't market it as a stripper. Maplins sells one for 20 quid, just connect VCR via S-Video to "stabilzer" then to scart adapater on DVD recorder - copy protection stripped. |

Most AV dealers will sell them - Dealers in Tottenham Court Rd, they actually "recommend" a stabilizer to anyone buying a DVD recorder. Mine is a "DataVideo Video Copy Box", use that as search criteria. I bought mine a few years back. But there are plenty of these boxes. Pop into Maplins or any Audio Visual dealer and they will know exactly what you want if you ask for: "a macrovision stripper/stabilizer for VHS copying". I just did a brief search and found this neat box, not only "stabilizes" copies, but converts NTSC to PAL http://www.threedoubleyou.com/videocopier.htm |
