Default Directv and Vonage

Has anyone successfully used Vonage to allow their DIRECTV TIVO (R10) to
phone home. I am contemplating getting Vonage, and want to know if the R10
can recognize it, and successfully call.

My H20 works fine with my Lingo VoIP. I imagine Vonage would be similar.

Does an H20 *need* a phone connection? My HR20 doesn't, so I'm
surprised that the H20 does.

My DirecTV DVR R15 had no trouble phoning home through CallVantage VoIP.
My DirecTivo HDVR2 would not make a connection, in spite of my repeated
attempted tweaks and hacks, both on the DTivo and the Callvantage box and
service.

There are many pages describing success with Vonage and various Tivo units,
that I found with Google searches.

I don't know about the R10, but Vonage works with my HR20 and HR21,
although the caller ID doesn't always work (it was this way with POTS also).

No, it doesn't "need" one, you just get the nag screen every day after 30
days (I'm up to 180-something now, and everything is working fine). Even
ordered a pay-per-view via the remote the other day. I currently don't have
a house phone line (rely on the cell phone), but have been considering it,
and Vonage is considerably cheaper than either of the two local phone
companies available. Just trying to decide if it's worth it. If the TIVO
can't use it, just one more reason to not spend the money.

John,

thanks for the info. Strangely enough, the HR20 has never been
connected to a phone line, and doesn't nag either. Now the HR10 does
nag if it's not connected.
