m... uk.tech.digital-tv Adrian C Sat, 08 Dec 2007 15:00:51 +0000 Perhaps signs of someone doing their homework? Not really - it would be much more appealing if it didnt have the interactive option and the red button info appearing at the top hand corner x amount of times per day is disliked by lots of people . Needless to say it wouldnt be a problem if there was a menu option to disable the red dot - but there isnt . If it's what I think you mean, most boxes will remove the red thing by pressing the green button on the remote. Not sure how long before it comes back though - I don't watch live TV much. -- Max Demian |

Hi Think it is expensive. Well, it's only just been launched. Also think it should have a scart for that money, will be missing all sorts of features. Other than RGB output and stereo, what? The 5 volt is a shame, these people should design at 12/13v to attract caravaneers, they would love the size. Nothing a LM7805 regulator, couple of capacitors and a close chunk of aluminium can't sort out. Perhaps an iPod/mobile phone Car charging lead would also work. One can buy a Freeview for under £20 at supermarkets. Ok I not sure about the transfer by aerial. If ye have an old mono SCART-less TV, you have two options to get freeview. Chuck it away, or use a box with a UHF modulator. There are not many of them about now. There should be. A well designed UHF modulator and a good TV tuner shouldn't have many issues that place the display quality much below composite (CVBS). The problem TVonics have is making the general non-technical public aware that this product exists and that its existance means that old TV sets need not necessarily be replaced. If I was an enterprising dealer, I'd be taking out paid advertising slots in local papers stressing this point - the units will be flying out of the door like hotcakes. http://www.tvonics.com/images/MFR-200.pdf IMO, TVonics have done their homework. Best of luck to them! -- Adrian C |

Press the 'green button' on my remote, and my TV turns off. Perhaps that's the recommended way of removing the red dot. ;-) Are there *any* boxes that can have red dots turned off _and_ still have digital teletext and other interactive stuff still working. Suspect the answer is no - All above are features of the MHEG coding system used by broadcasters, you don't get to pick and choose. However, there are a few boxes that can have MHEG turned off completely. My (sacked from TiVo duty) Labgear Setpal could do that! -- Adrian C |
