After all the fun discussion we had about the 'odd' looking aerial that is
on a roof quite near to where I live... :-) I thought I'd mention another one I saw another one yesterday in North London. Didn't have my camera to hand, but roughly was the same size as a 'normal' aerial, but it looked like a long thin shape. The two arms were attached to the mast, and the point seemed to be angled in pretty much the same direction as other more conventional aerials in the vicinity. Both arms had the usual little 'cross-pieces' on them. Any thoughts...anyone...? -- Regards, Chris. (Remove Elvis's shoes to email me) |

Do you mean a smaller version of this: http://www.hartrao.ac.za/geodesy/121-2101_IMG.JPG If you do, it's probably a ham radio log periodic John |

The DAT75 looks a bit like that. That's what I thought. An amateur 70cm aerial is unlikely to be fixed in the direction of the local TV Tx, more likely to be on a rotator. -- Graham %Profound_observation% |

An amateur 70cm aerial is unlikely to be fixed in the direction of the local TV Tx, more likely to be on a rotator. No, it wasn't that. If I'm looking at the right thing... a Google search for DAT75 gives me a thing with a reflector, and three 'prongs' sticking forward from it. The aerial I'm looking at could kind of be made as follows: Snap two of the prongs off the DAT75 and join them together to make a double length one. Then bend it in the middle and (using no more nails maybe...) fix it to a mast by the two ends. It may not have been pointing in exactly the same directions as the TV aerials, I only saw it fairly briefly as I drove past. And it could have been on a rotator for all I know... -- Regards, Chris.
