Default Another funny looking aerial.

After all the fun discussion we had about the 'odd' looking aerial that is
on a roof quite near to where I live... :-)

I thought I'd mention another one I saw another one yesterday in North
London.
Didn't have my camera to hand, but roughly was the same size as a 'normal'
aerial, but it looked like a long thin shape. The two arms were attached
to the mast, and the point seemed to be angled in pretty much the same
direction as other more conventional aerials in the vicinity. Both arms had
the usual little 'cross-pieces' on them.

Any thoughts...anyone...?

Do you mean a smaller version of this:

If you do, it's probably a ham radio log periodic

Similar to that. Except:
It was (relatively) longer and thinner, ie the ratio of the gap between the
ends of the arms and the length of the arms was smaller. If your picture is
about 1:1.5, the one I saw was more like 1:3.
The one I saw was fixed to the mast by the ends of the arms (ie at the open
end)
The one I saw had much smaller (again relatively) crosspieces.

But yes, in overall shape and design, a smaller version of then. So prob a
ham radio aerial then... Thanks. :-)

Or it may be an old Log Periodic aerial.

That's what I thought. An amateur 70cm aerial is unlikely to be
fixed in the direction of the local TV Tx, more likely to be on a
rotator.

No, it wasn't that. If I'm looking at the right thing... a Google search for
DAT75 gives me a thing with a reflector, and three 'prongs' sticking forward
from it.
The aerial I'm looking at could kind of be made as follows:

Snap two of the prongs off the DAT75 and join them together to make a double
length one. Then bend it in the middle and (using no more nails maybe...)
fix it to a mast by the two ends.

It may not have been pointing in exactly the same directions as the TV
aerials, I only saw it fairly briefly as I drove past. And it could have
been on a rotator for all I know...

It's just a wide spread log periodic. Not often seen in the UK but very
common in Europe.

I said that ages ago, but no one listens to me :-(
