Hi all
I have been using inherited Sky hardware for 3 years now, but just the basic viewing box - a service which is now legitimised as Free Sat. A colleague of mine has a Sky+ install with all the recording facilities etc. If he cancels his subscriptions, will he still get the free stuff and will his recording features etc still operate? Or, having been a bona fide subscriber, will he have to pay for Free Sat and will his recording facilities be available? TIA Phil |

Legitimised? I have used a Sky box for years without subscribing and it as allways been legal. A colleague of mine has a Sky+ install with all the recording facilities etc. If he cancels his subscriptions, will he still get the free stuff and will his recording features etc still operate? Or, having been a bona fide subscriber, will he have to pay for Free Sat and will his recording facilities be available? Well I do not know about the recording if there is a recording subscription being paid as an extra stopping will of course cause that to cease. But stopping the subsciption for programmes will only stop the subscription ones, others will still be recievable, as I do. Sky charge something like £150 to provide a box etc to recieve non subscription stations and again this would give what I recieve. This word Freesat might be a scheme the BBC are to set up to complement Freeview. Hope these coments help full. Regards David |

TIA Phil He would have to pay £10 per month for the recording facilities unless he has a Sky package of any description. |

He won't be able to record anything once he cancels the subscription and he *will not* be able to access any previous recordings that he's made that are currently still on the hard drive. John |

John What a pity Tivo did not take off in the UK. Works across all platforms, without the silly restrictions you get with Sky+. Problem was that Tivo awarded the marketing contract to Sky. So they copied it for themselves and "forgot" to market Tivo. |

There is a good UK forum here. http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...splay.php?f=14 I have 3 TiVos! -- Ashley For Windsor Weather see www.snglinks.com/wx |

According to $ky, when I checked last week, this option is no longer available. Clem |

This should contain a 7 day EPG using public domain technology, which could be used by non Sky PVRs. You would have to buy the equipment, but there would be no monthly charge. -- Michael Chare |

When I asked Sky about a year ago when freesat was just coming in, the
answer was. The box will need a freesat card, and no plus features will work unless you subscribe. In fact it's been possible to have a Sky box but with no subscription since day one of Sky Digital, Oct 1st 1998, although it was the BBC/C4/C5 who supplied the FTV card in those days, and the box ISTR cost £399 ? |
