One NTSC and one ATSC. | Most sets that support PIP will let you select a picture from each source | including input of other sources like cable or sat. If you're looking for | PIP with both being the same kind of tuner, you will probably have a hard | time finding it. None of my TV's support PIP, yet I can get PIP on any of | them using multiple tuners with MythTV. But since i can also record | multiple shows, PIP becomes somewhat antiquated.:-) How well will that work for OTA broadcasts in the USA on 18 Feb 2009? Psychic signals I got from 's post suggested to me that he was more interested in being able to have a _digital_ program in each of the PIP views, hence requiring two tuners, each capable of the appropriate modulation of interest (be that 8VSB for over the air or QAM for cable). I did not get any psychic signals on which source he wanted to use it for. Personally, I prefer multiple digital tuners so I can get signals from two or more separate antennas without having to combine the RF which can mess up lots of things for signals getting in on both. Ideally, a single remote that can smartly control which tuner is selected would help so that it would not be necessary to switch between different HDMI inputs on the set and pick a different remote for which external STB was used ... which is the fallback method to achieve this if no direct solution is found. -- |---------------------------------------/----------------------------------| | Phil Howard KA9WGN (ka9wgn.ham.org) / Do not send to the address below | | first name lower case at ipal.net / | |------------------------------------/-------------------------------------

Check the Mitsubishi lcd's. I believe they have two separate ota digital tuners and pip, also. It doesn't mean that the television has two tuners. Chip -- -------------------- http://NewsReader.Com/ -------------------- Usenet Newsgroup Service $9.95/Month 30GB |

Mine will work the same since I haven't used NTSC (analog) in over 2 years. Of course if you use OTA NTSC as one of your sources, you'll loose that capability. so if your TV doesn't support the other inputs or you have no other input sources, and you only have one ATSC tuner, then you won't have pip anymore. If he has digital cable, and his TV has an atsc tuner, and supports PIP, then he should be able to use PIP with 1 ATSC channel, and one cable channel. Again, this will depend on the TV sources supported for pip. I only have antenna source (uhf/vhf). I feeds a total of about 10 tuners. 6 in my mythtv system, and 4 to other various tuners. One remote controls all of them. -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org My Tivo Experience http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/tivo.htm Tivo HD/S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm AMD cpu help http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php |

Very true. It might require an external STB as one of the sources to be able to do that for two RF sources. Maybe I'll go over to Circuit City and Sears tomorrow and hassle the sales people about it (and get them to hook the TV up to an outside antenna, again). -- |---------------------------------------/----------------------------------| | Phil Howard KA9WGN (ka9wgn.ham.org) / Do not send to the address below | | first name lower case at ipal.net / | |------------------------------------/-------------------------------------

The Samsung I have allows the choice of the digital tuner, the analog tuner, and any of the component, hdmi, or composite inputs, or the RGB input as the source for either of the two PIP screens. With a few minor restrictions. |
