What is likely to have caused a complete loss of sound after moving
the TV? The story: rooftop aerial, through signal booster (used to get pixelation; got booster via Freecyle; no pixelation since) into Freeview box and then to TV via SCART. Room where this sits was being decorated, so moved all the kit next door - all working fine. Painter finished, moved kit back and have no sound. Sound OK on DVDs, but nothing from the Freeview box. Picture is perfect. What can I try, what should I investigate? Less likely, but happened to me, loose headphone socket on TV. Took TV apart, resoldered socket, fixed. Interesting one! How long did it take to work that out...? In this case though the OP said sound was fine with DVD player, so I'd guess not the problem on this occasion. -- Regards, Chris. (Remove Elvis's shoes to email me) |

Evidence for the prosecution: Small(ish) boy who hooks his PS2 upto the TV. Parents who can't stand the bleeping it makes. Headphones plugged in and out. Headphones and PS2 inputs all in the same sockety thing on the side of the TV. Intermittent sound missing from TV, cured by manual percussive maintenance in the region of the headphone socket. In this case though the OP said sound was fine with DVD player, so I'd guess not the problem on this occasion. Good point. -- Tim fast and gripping, non pompous, glossy and credible. |

Intermittent sound missing from TV, cured by manual percussive maintenance in the region of the headphone socket. So if you whacked the TV near to headphone socket, the sound cut in and out... Ok, I suppose that might have been a bit of a give-a-way! -- Regards, Chris. (Remove Elvis's shoes to email me) |

The sound connections are all at one end. -- *A bartender is just a pharmacist with a limited inventory * Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

Reseated all the SCART cables, and it makes no difference. I should add that the TV has one SCART input; the DVD is connected to the Freeview box, which is the device with 2 SCARTs - so sound when playing a DVD is going from DVD through Freeview to TV. TV is a very old/cheap CRT with no "sense" of different inputs. Sound settings are turned up on both Freeview box and TV. What Freeview box is it ? If it has two Scarts, then one is probably labelled 'TV' and the other 'VCR' ? Check the TV one really does feed the TV set ? Also, does your Freeview box remote have a DTV/TV button or similar to toggle the Scart assertion between the box, and its connected device (in your case the DVD). Try operating that. I'm clutching at straws here though. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. |
