Default HDTV transmitter location needed

I will be buying land near Reno, Nevada soon. Anybody who's been to
that area knows that the undulating landscape can make OTA analog TV
impossible to receive. I have a big Channel Master antenna with a
range of 60 miles, now all I need to know is where to point it. What
mountain is the HDTV transmitters for Reno on? I just need to know the
location, I can figure out the rest. Thanks.

To the OP: If you don't get the digital stations, enter a high antenna
height of 200' or higher to get a list of the digital stations.
Antennaweb is conservative on digital reception, so increasing the
stated antenna height is used to get a more complete of what stations
are in the area. You may not get all those stations, but it is a useful
trick.

You also may want to try www.tvfool.com. It provides signal strength
predictions for the analog and digital broadcast stations. If you really
want to dive into it, the website has maps of the broadcast pattern of
all the stations in a market that you can load in Google Earth to see
what the signal strength will be in an area.

Checking the Reno digital TV stations, three of them are currently on
upper VHF 7 to 13, the rest are on UHF 15 to 44. So you will need upper
VHF reception. Checking the FCC final digital channel assignment list
for after the analog shutdown in Feb, 2009, all 7 of the major stations
are already at their final digital channel assignment so none of them
will be moving to low VHF. If it turns out you need better performance
for picking up the stations, you could use a AntennasDirect 91-XG for
UHF and a Winegard YA-6713 upper VHF antenna. A combination VHF/UHF is
always a compromise in design performance. The best deep fringe
performance comes with antennas optimized for each broadcast band. But
try the existing CM antenna you have first.

Also, there is no such thing as a HDTV transmitter. The stations are
broadcasting a ATSC digital TV signal. It is up to the station to choose
to broadcast a HD sub-channel, some mix of a HD and SD sub-channels, or
all SD sub-channels.

The FCC web site gives the exact latitude and longitude for all stations;
also the elevation.
