Default Freeview Channel 5 problem

I seem to be having a problem with my Philips set top box relating to
Channel 5 on Freeview .When I select the channel it stays on for about 15
seconds then goes to a black screen, but sound is stiil ok. All other
channels are fine, with no problems whatsoever, as are the channels on
terestial.Anyone any idea why this is happening. Signal strength and quality
are 95% and 100% respectively. I have restored factory settings and
rescanned the programmes, but still problem persists.Any help will be much
appreciated

Channel 5 is in Mux A. Are you sure that you can receive other channels in
this mux OK. See http://www.dtg.org.uk/retailer/dtt_channels.html Some are
encrypted and you might not miss many of the rest!

If you can then I would say that that you have a weird problem with your
STB, which may well be the case as you have sound and an apparently strong
signal.

It would be worth checking if your STB has the latest firmware. This page
shows when updates are transmitted:

Are you sure other Mux A channels are OK ? If so, it might have something to
do with the way C5 is encoded. It has, AIUI a variable GOP period (normal is
12 frames, and fixed) that can extend to 60 or so frames. This throws some
receivers. My Toppy sometimes refuses to lock to it. Film 4 can be the same,
again Toppy can get confused trying to playback recordings from F4.

Mux A list he-

Well you could try a factory reset, but I don't hold up much hope. I
suggest that you find what firmware level teh STB is using and then contact
Philips technical dept. If you have a generic firmware problem there is
quite a chance that they will know about it.

My Phillips DTR 1500 also does that, Phillips gave it to me for free after
I complained that some of the buttons on my "future proof" Phillips IDTV
had no effect.

They said there would be no updates for the tv so have this box instead.

Is this "another identical model box" or another different make/model box ?

My experience of Philips boxes was poor, I returned it for refund after
numerous problems (crashes, loosing settings, etc.) and bought a different
maker (which is totally stable). This is a shame, as generally I find
Philips products to be quite well designed.

If its a different make/model, then no idea of the cause.

Just to update everyone, went to exchange STB at Currys this morning and
before I took the exchange box I got them to try it out,and suprise, suprise
the new box was doing exactly the same.So it appears that there are a lot
of faulty Philips DTR220 out there.Credit to Currys though as I had to
make three trips to store plus phone calls they arranged a straight swap
for a Logik Vesa STB.

I did notice yesterday that the problem seem to be with the banner. The
picture was going at the same time as banner was turning off.By going to
menu and leaving banner on permanantly the channel did not turn off!!
